It actually IS in the interest of the Philippines—as a continuation of a colonial state, as an imagined community, as the emanation of class power—to attach itself to either the US or PRC camp. It isn't, however, the interest of the working people under its jurisdiction.
Not surprising that Marxists, especially the Leninist variety, can’t imagine a diverse, decentralized world of autonomous, self-organized peoples. And IMO calling traditional tribal/clan lands ethno-states is incredibly disrespectful and disingenuous.
