@soupercocky@RiceBreeding Previous experience indicates that there are not enough roots at depth in current varieties but a lot of factors at play. It will be intetesting to see your results.
@JaquieMitch_UQ is leading a new @ACIARAustralia project helping to develop integrated weed management practices for direct-seeded rice in Laos & Cambodia.
@AgriFuturesAU recent did a piece on some of the work the @UQRiceDen has been doing to develop breeding tools for the rice breeding program. The aim is to help make selecting aerobic 'DryRice' varieties faster and easier.@JaquieMitch_UQ@argiev
#Rice research at the @UQ_News Gatton campus has uncovered previously unknown genetic traits for aerobic production systems.
This genotype information is now being used by breeders to develop new varieties to ⬇️ water use & improve cold tolerance.

Our trial under t-tape is now starting to get a move on @JaquieMitch_UQ@UQRiceDen. First few plots reached PI this week. Looking at the advantage of deep roots under aerobic conditions. @AgriFuturesAU@RiceExtension
@Matt_Champness@JaquieMitch_UQ@UQRiceDen@AgriFuturesAU@RiceExtension We tend to have more of a regimented irrigation schedule since that works best for us (i.e. M, W, F for our well-watered control). Rate and frequency change based on our objectives and the time of season.
This round of rapid generation advancement is up an running for the @UQRiceDen. Hopefully harvest in the 1st week of April. @AgriFuturesAU@RiceExtension
@jenicka13@UQRiceDen@JaquieMitch_UQ There's about 115 lines across this experimentation exploring the benefit of narrow root architecture and conductance related traits.
Nice visit of Australian colleagues of SunRice leaded by @rraplrford to Paso de la Laguna to see the @INIA_UY rice program research lines in breeding, crop management, rotation design, Sustainable intensification and irrigation systems. Great discussions.
@Aerobicriceaus Looks great considering the season!! Do you think it might have been touched up by cool temperatures at the microspore? It was pretty cool in SEQ a couple of weeks ago.
We are the first generation that has a clear picture of the value of nature and the enormous impact we have one it. We may also be the last that can act to reverse this trend.
