@NoLongerTheFuzz I believe the 2012 Olympic Torch Bearer thing is accepted as true, but it’s worth bearing in mind that 8000 people carried the torch at some point or other
Hi @easyJet what on earth is happening with EZY8159 to Ljubljana out of Gatwick? Except for when the pilot came off the plane c.2 hours ago to tell us there’s no one to board us, we’ve heard nothing. There’s no one here at all, any no announcements
@ActualJC@seektruthfromfx@QuibbleUK@TheQuikBrownFox Are you a bit of a twat? I ask this in a spirit of blah.
Some of us have been commentating on Adtech and the law for the best part of two decades. All I was doing was criticising someone who comes along and suggests it can be fixed as a mere “quibble”. But you do unpleasant you
@ActualJC@seektruthfromfx@QuibbleUK@TheQuikBrownFox Haha. “I’m going to make a public stink about something happening which I’m actually also doing and could stop doing at any time, but I’ll pretend it’s legally required”. Marvellous
@ActualJC@seektruthfromfx@QuibbleUK@TheQuikBrownFox I actually barely give a hoot - I’ve got the world I want. But, to repeat, these Quibble people said it was a legal requirement to have a cookie banner. It isn’t, and it would be very easy for them not to drop cookies, rather than risk looking hypocritical
@ActualJC@seektruthfromfx@QuibbleUK@TheQuikBrownFox They said it was “a legal requirement” to have a cookie banner. It isn’t. It’s a legal requirement to comply with regulation 6 of PECR: they could that by not dropping non-essential cookies
@ActualJC@QuibbleUK@TheQuikBrownFox And so “quibbling” about it, when thousands of people have been objecting and lobbying for the best part of two decades is going to effect change?
@ActualJC@QuibbleUK@TheQuikBrownFox It may be a stupid piece of legislation, but do you think it’s abstract/without context? I’m largely neutral on this: the modern internet is based on the advertising economy; but tracking and profiling are pretty intrusive, and many people have good reason to have objections
@ActualJC@QuibbleUK@TheQuikBrownFox I haven’t fully checked Quibble’s website, but they say “We do not use cookies for advertising or profiling” but they do use analytics. If that’s third party analytics, it’s almost certainly *someone else* (probably Google) using them for advertising or profiling
@ActualJC@QuibbleUK@TheQuikBrownFox Think about “my point” a bit deeper old sport: the reason cookie banners are a scourge on the internet is not going to be solved by two people thinking “hey, this is wrong”. It’s a function of two decades of rampant advertising practice and weak regulatory enforcement
@ActualJC@QuibbleUK@TheQuikBrownFox There are in fact many operators of modern websites who eschew the need for analytics, plugins and tracking, and therefore don’t place non-essential cookies. Those don’t need a cookie banner. A banner is not a legal requirement in itself; compliance with regulation 6 of PECR is
@ThePosieParker Do you mean the precise amount? Because the annual report shows he was paid between £170k and £175k last year (p110) https://t.co/KtNmwxiNtn
