But as soon as there is a curve, you would probably immediately derail (even at low speeds) without conical wheels.

@driverbod125 So I was curious about this, so I googled a bit :)

Indeed, the only element guiding the car is the rack. The rails themselves have no guiding function. Therefore the wheels on some (or maybe all) cars are actually flat, and not conical as for normal rail.
