Quite literally the opposite is true. Last night was a perfect example of why you should go for 2. Even if you are unsuccessful the opposing team typically goes conservative and you often get another shot to win the game, which they did. If they played for the tie, high likelihood TB plays for the FG win instead of conservative and punt.
