Resume Tip: When pursuing an extremely technical position (Dev, Engineering etc.) Emphasizing your Soft skills such as Communication and Leadership can help distinguish you. Naturally people have the impression that devs look to prioritize developing other skills. Use that info.
I complain because it's cathartic, but I don't let any of the BS I encounter stop me. I don't get emotional, I don't rage-quit, I just keep focusing on my goals and doing whatever I can to achieve them โ๏ธ
last week of this bootcamp and:
-The instructor ghosted the class. Didn't show up, no emails or messages in the slack about cancelling class or anything, radio silence
-Assistant teacher steps in after we reach out to him, he watches us present our final projects and then tells..
@DonDubya200 he's buddies with the higher ups and featured on the company website... if they're already ignoring student feedback I don't know if there's much more that could be done :/
first thing on a Monday and this bootcamp teacher has already shared a super sexist tech guy, then goes to share some tech youtube videos of women teachers and talks about how "fine" and "yummy" they are
Thank you to everyone who has been reaching out with support. I am looking to break into tech and find a job that does not accept sexist or discriminatory attitudes. If you know of places that are openly hiring juniors and are a welcome space for everyone, please let me know
Earth Hero is a mobile app, and are building out their web app! I mainly worked on the front end to build React components and style them, while also providing feedback in weekly cross-team meetings. A great project that I'm very proud to have been able to contribute to.
Last week was my final week of volunteering as a Dev apprentice on a @TechFleetWorks project! What an amazing experience to get to work on a real web project for an 8-week sprint with a team of other devs, designers and researchers. Thank you to @EarthHeroOrg for the opportunity!
@ClareSudbery Thank you! Many students have reported the teacher for his other unprofessional behavior in class, but have learned that this company does not care about our feedback. Everyone is just keeping their head down to try and get through the last weeks of the course at this point.
@DonDubya200 There is a system, that prompts students for feedback at the end of each class. Students have been reporting him since the start of this program (Mostly for emotional outbursts and unprofessional behavior) and he has come to class to let us know that this essentially does nothing
