Around 4 years ago a friend of mine who had worked at Micron (RAM company) said he had tried to get them to combine compute and RAM onto one chip, but the Intel/PC part industry wouldn't let them. I guess NVIDIA finally made it happen.
Anyway that friend went insane, stalked a bunch of people and is now in prison. So not sure what to make of that story.
