The “steel vs ceramics/poly body armor” debate is missing one key piece, the context on which it’s being used.

On a 1:1 basis steel armor will always lose to ceramic & poly plates. However, the situation that requires civilians to put on armor is never considered.

If you find yourself, as a civillian, requiring the *daily* use of hard armor to survive.

Something that can take multiple hits without loss of capability, go through any amount of abuse, and have its spall protection fixed by duct tape and or a can of flex seal, starts to become a more attractive than previous conversations allow over something that’s lighter but is also close to compromised the second it does its job.
