At this point, the #Biden Administration’s embrace of #Genderism amounts to state endorsement of a religion.

With no objective evidence to back its existence, just the self-reported experiences of believers, gender ideology is an inappropriate basis for government policy, especially policy that affects our military readiness.

Currently, the US military not only accepts #transgender applicants, it covers all aspects of “gender affirming care” for active duty service members with a diagnosis of gender dysphoria. This Biden-era policy runs counter to precedent and to common sense.

Gender dysphoria, whatever else it may be, is a mental health condition, as evidenced by its inclusion in the DSM V. Sufferers can experience an array of mental health symptoms, including depression and anxiety, and a shockingly high number - 41% - will attempt suicide at some point.

For those of you who are unaware, even a single past bout of depression that required medication will disqualify an applicant from military service.

This is perfectly reasonable: basic training is meant to be a high-stress environment, and we all remember what happened in Full Metal Jacket. It’s easier today, but it’s still not a place for people with mental health issues, and not just because they give you a rifle.

Gender dysphoria, however, is not disqualifying. Instead, the military will provide medication with which to treat it (hormone therapy). Call me crazy, but I don’t think it’s appropriate to make an exception for any mental health condition, much less one as complex as gender dysphoria, with such a high rate of suicidality.

Not only is the military accepting trans people; Tricare - the military’s health care program - is now covering “gender affirming” care. This means both hormones and surgeries.

The military makes another special exception for trans people here: other cosmetic/elective procedures are not covered by Tricare. Uncle Sam will pay for a man to get breast implants to improve his self esteem, but not for a woman to do the same.

We’re not done. In the spirit of absurdity that seems to govern so much of American life these days, physical fitness testing requirements are adjusted to match the recruit’s gender - not their sex.

This means that male soldiers who identify as female only have to meet female standards for fitness. For women, meeting those standards requires being in decent shape. For a man, they’re a cakewalk.

Of course, that doesn’t really matter too much, since troops who are receiving hormone treatment can’t be deployed anyway.

Yes, you read that right.

The US military is accepting recruits it knows will never be able to deploy, paying for their transition, paying them while they transition, paying them while they recover from surgery, and holding them to a lower fitness standard than normal troops.

From a morale standpoint alone, that’s pretty grim. Nothing destroys unit cohesion faster than giving some people special privileges that don’t come with added responsibilities.

Finally, being a woman in the military can already feel like being in hostile territory, and the sexual assault statistics are dreadful. Having to sleep and shower next to men is an unfair threat to the safety of female soldiers, and shows once again that the Biden administration doesn’t care about women.
