Can only guess, but why the change by Modi on students protest:

1- Lathi charge galvanised students and larger section of people esp parents. This includes BJP supporters and workers.

2- It led to a flood of memes on the PM and very disrespectful language by the students. This traveled far and wide. Even under 10s got into the act. A carefully crafted image as the world’s most popular leader got shattered. The protestors even warned the next demand will be the resignation of the PM. If it had got to that stage, it would have been terrible for the PM.

3- “Desh ki tabahi ka hisab dijiye” became the anthem for the protest which included paper leak, ram temple chanda chori, Manipur etc. All of which resonates. Nobody can unhear that.

I hope the course correction is more comprehensive. It’s said that MoShah don’t take dissent kindly and come back hard. I hope they correct even that.

I’d say Modi starting unscripted press conferences will be a start. Connect to the people by being accessible and accountable. Another mann ki baat with 30 seconds reel on Insta is not good enough. Rebuild and rebrand.
