Ava Spillers was getting ready to start her freshman year at UGA this fall. Now the 19-year-old FPD grad and her family are waiting for answers from MD Anderson Cancer Center.
According to a CaringBridge page created by her aunt, Ava unexpectedly had a seizure recently. Testing showed a lesion on her brain, and later imaging found a mass in her left lung.
Ava underwent a lung biopsy in Macon and has been referred to specialists at MD Anderson in Houston. Her family said Thursday night that the biopsy had been sent to the appropriate team and they were waiting to learn when Ava would be evaluated.
Ava, who plans to study nursing at UGA, is described by her aunt as a gifted athlete, an outstanding student and a young woman with a deep love for Jesus, her family and her friends.
The family is asking for your prayers.
Keep this Macon girl in your prayers…. 🙏😔

Ronald Reagan’s inspiring patriotic speech from 1981 about why America is the greatest. This is an absolute must watch today on this 250th birthday of our country 🇺🇸
Heavenly Father,
I give You my stress, worries, and fears. Fill my heart with Your peace that surpasses all understanding. Strengthen me, guide me, and remind me that You are always with me. Help me trust You in every situation. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
America is a place, merged with an idea. Americans are those here who agree to this idea. The idea is that anything is possible and that you can live your life the way you want, so long as that way does not impinge on others’ ability to live the way they want.
As the current custodians of America, we will keep this idea sacred, so that it is healthy and alive for those who come after us. Just like those of the past 250 years did for us. Happy 4th of July.
Some people write America off.
I wrote her a love letter.
Every freedom we enjoy today was entrusted to us by generations of Americans who were willing to lay down their lives so that future generations could live free.
They left behind families, dreams, and futures of their own so that ours could endure.
May we prove worthy of their sacrifice. May we cherish this nation they defended. And may America, with God’s grace and the courage of her people, continue to shine for the next 250 years.
Happy Birthday, America. I love you. 🇺🇸
🇺🇸 "Our Goal Is to See 250,000 People Come to Jesus Christ."
During America's 250th celebration in Washington, D.C., @CaraCastronuova spoke with evangelists from Revival Ministries International, who say they've already seen more than 50,000 people make decisions to follow Jesus Christ through their outreach efforts.
"Religion tells you to clean yourself up and come to God. A relationship with God says, 'Come to God, and He will clean you up.'"
A retired Army veteran volunteering with the group shared his hope for the nation:
"My wish for America at 250 is simple: Find Jesus."
Happy 250th Birthday America! Our nation was born in adversity and we’re still in adversity today. It is God Who has brought us through every storm and trial, and we need to continue to call on Him for wisdom, direction, and help. Today, let’s thank God for these 250 years of freedom and for His hand of blessing on this nation. Most of all, let us thank God for giving His Son, Jesus Christ, so that we could be free from the bondage of sin!
“Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord…” (Psalm 33:12)
This photo of Jane and me is from a couple of years ago in Alaska.
Alan Jackson played his last show last night.
He is one of the good ones.
A patriot and Christ centered.
He has a neurological disease which impedes his balance and ability to play the guitar.
He is my favorite country singer of all time.
He told stories. He made you not just hear, but FEEL what it is to be a “good ole boy”. He was also never afraid to be bold in his faith.
But I have a more personal story about Alan Jackson I’d like to share and it is the reason I have always been a fan of him and his music.
Back in 1992, I was going on my first real trip with my mom up to New York to see her sister and my cousins.
It was the first time I had ever flown.
Our flight left later in the evening, not quite a red-eye, but close. I think it was somewheres around 10 or 11pm.
At the time, Charlotte Douglas Airport was way smaller and far less busy than it is now.
So me and mom board the plane, and I take the window seat (as kids usually do).
Me and mom are chit chatting, and she was doing her best to calm me. See, me and flying don’t really get along. Neither do me and heights - never have, prolly never will. To say I was a bit wound up about the flight would be an understatement.
The plane is continuing to board, and there weren’t many folks on the plane. As memory best serves, it was maybe 1/3 full, if that.
Everyone is seated, doors are shut, plane is ready to push. Then the pilot comes over the speaker to tell us there would be a slight delay as some folks were making their way to the plane.
Door opens up, and 5-6 dudes get on the plane. All wearing stetsons and boots. The 3rd dude on to the plane stood out a little more because he had frills hanging off his coat and he was wearing a white stetson. He was noticeably taller than the rest as well.
The first two dudes keep coming down the aisle and end up sitting right behind us.
The third dude stops at our row, looks at my mom and me, tips his hat and says “Evenin, folks. How y’all doin?”, then takes the aisle seat right next to my mom.
My mom, who rarely ever swore, then says “Holy shit. You’re Alan Jackson”.
He says “Yes’m I am, and you are?”. So mom introduced us.
But here’s what really sticks with me: Mom had told him I was a bit scared for my first flight. Wanna guess what Alan Jackson did? He asked if it was okay to pray with us. So he did.
After which, we spent the entire flight chatting with Alan Jackson. He and his band even belted out a couple songs along the way.
It is legit one of those memories I will never forget.
I never got to see him to live. But I’d say this experience trumps any concert of his I could have went to.
I think something like that speaks more to the man he is than his music. Here he is, just met this kid and his mom 5 minutes prior, and he is offering a prayer to calm my fears for my first flight.
So, in closing - I pray Alan can find true peace in his retirement, and I pray that the Father will provide him with healing and assuage his suffering with the disease he has.
Thank you for the prayer, @OfficialJackson. Thank you for all the wonderful music, and thank you for never being afraid to profess your love for our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
