1️⃣ in 5️⃣ of us rent our 🏠 from a private landlord. Making sure tenants can afford their energy bills and access innovative new services will be essential to tackle the cost-of-living crisis and make the changes needed for net zero🧵1/
Personal news alarm...🚨
After three and a half fantastic years, today is my last day at @CAenergypolicy - I’m not moving too far in terms of energy/consumer focus, to a new Senior Policy Advisor role at Ofgem
The Energy Team at Citizens Advice do amazing work, especially this year rapidly sharing the insights Ofgem, suppliers and government needed to identify and resolve emerging problems - conveniently the annual report is out today if you want to read more - https://t.co/xgTbNwW79U
New @CitizensAdvice research today shows 1 in 8 private renters risk missing out on vital support for their energy bills: potentially being locked out of the £150 Warm Home Discount and the upcoming £400 energy grant

Great from @CAenergypolicy on the links between energy policy and private renters.
Once again, two core themes underpinning this are around:
🧠 Understanding obligations
📋 Enforcement
Great opp to solve this with the new 'property portal' in the upcoming Renters' Reform Bill

We’re calling for the government to make sure tenants can take control of their energy bills if they want to in order to access support and buy products that meet their needs. Renters should also be taken into account in designing future market reforms 5/
Having been involved with this survey since its early days, one of its hallmarks used to be how stable the results were... This important🧵shows how that's no longer the case, more and more people are really feeling the impact of energy price rises and need extra support now-
Since 2018, Ofgem and @CitizensAdvice have carried out a regular survey to understand and track public opinion about the energy market.
Today, we published the findings from the most recent wave of this research (conducted in January 22)
They make for grim reading. 1/ 👇
Energy efficiency is a key missing link in the Energy Security Strategy. In my first blog for Citizens Advice https://t.co/3bYy3XNmar I’ve written about the need for energy efficiency to lower bills, reduce reliance on the volatile gas market, and meet our net zero targets.
9 months after suppliers started to fail - some customers are STILL waiting for their credit refund. Balances are protected, but at a time when every penny counts, is this really fair on customers? #EnergyCrisis
