I think it great these sport organizations are sustainable organizations, but it would be more beneficial if they were “strong EM” sport organizations to ensure that what they are doing is acceptable. @KIN110UofR https://t.co/jwkccNSzKH
@RoriArmitage25@KIN110UofR I would say it’s important to try because without trying the environment will only continue to deteriorate and get worse. At least with trying we can try and stay where we are or make slight improvements! @KIN110UofR
Today we spoke about how facilities used for previous olympics games are now abandoned or not used. I found a website that shows abandoned sports arenas, the olympic village and more. https://t.co/CFetRhtaIj @KIN110UofR
Women are often photographed in ways that show their physical appearance. Women may also be photographed in moments of vulnerability suggesting women must feel a certain way while competing. Do you think this will ever change? @KIN110UofR
The government at the municipal, provincial and federal levels play different roles in sport. Such as, funding, policies and regulations and health promotion within sport. How does the government impact developing athletes and national level athletes? @KIN110UofR
@JasminFlaman@KIN110UofR I dislocated my thumb 5 years ago and as much as I it seems like a small injury. It still affects me to this day, simple tasks such as opening a shampoo bottle or writing causes me pain. This may be due to me having to train the day after the incident. @KIN110UofR
We discussed sports movies in class, and most focus on overcoming obstacles through hard work. “Miracle Season”, which doesn’t quite fit is about a player’s death and the emotional impact on the team, where healing, not hard work, is significant. Other examples? @KIN110UofR
I think in contact sports letting off steam in sport can lead to unnecessary violence and aggression and can cause injury to others. In contrast, in non-contact sports such as swimming, sport can be a great way for emotional or stress release without harming others.
@DChiderah@KIN110UofR Very good question. I wouldn’t say the entire concept of hazing would be considered violent because there can be more serious situations compared to others. There are definitely some aspects of hazing that can be violent.
@OsmakAutum49129@KIN110UofR I think it still does have a positive impact on health. But, I think these athletes need to learn more about the long term effects of their injuries. As well coaches need to support that when an athlete is injured, action to get healthy again is required. @KIN110UofR
How do you think deviance in sport is developed? I would say it is likely that it is learned and adapted to over time and becomes a new norm by society. Deviance is such a difficult concept when there is no clear definition on what, when or how deviance comes about. @KIN110UofR
@ryliebenson19@KIN110UofR I would say mental because as soon as you cross the mental barrier that you are injured, you are able to take action on how to help your body physically. It is hard to accept as a professional athlete that your body needs help and a break is needed. @KIN110UofR
@gresy44022@KIN110UofR Great question! In the end, it is important for these athletes to remember that playing with an injury could cause long term effects and make you unable to play again. When I was an athlete that was something that helped me speak up about an injury. @KIN110UofR
@chloforddrake@KIN110UofR Great question! I understand where professional athletes are coming from because when I was a national level swimmer, missing a practice or any training made me so anxious. I would worry that my competitors would continue to improve and I was stuck unable to train. @KIN110UofR
People of food deserts often have no access to food, while those in food swamps only have access to unhealthy fast food. This highlights the inaccessibility and unaffordability of healthy food and how a healthy lifestyle is not easy as healthism makes it seem. @KIN110UofR
@JasminFlaman@KIN110UofR Yes! One of my friends plays waterpolo as well and the costs of it is insane. It’s an example of one of many sports that costs a fortune and can cause a social divide.
@MeganStark394@KIN110UofR Thank you for your question! Knowing the time, effort and costs my parents put in to help me succeed. It made it even more difficult to retire from swimming. The pressure while I was swimming was also a lot because I knew that I was given opportunities that not everyone has.
