Reading @lester_laminack and @ktkelly14's READING TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE yesterday (reviewed today) has me thinking: Many districts focus on WHAT a student does after reading text, but little consideration might be given to how that text got to the reader? HOW and WHY of selection.
And yet we continue to write our checks on the nonsense computerized program and celebrate the holy-grail-quick-fix-empty-promise-in-a-box mentality. I find that baffling. Love this comment so much Nell! #G2great@franmcveigh
A5: SEL is so much more than teaching behavior...every lesson should have both a social goal and an academic goal. We can't teach one without the other--as @TimShriver says, the head and the heart come together into our classrooms. #collabclass#EdutopiaChat
Ss @NewTownES were so engaged as they learned about the digestive system. Hands-on learning creates excitement and relevance! @UCPS_ICTeam #UCPSEmpowerED@AGHoulihan@bradbreedlove90
Embedding word work during guided reading allows for differentiation and is an extension of word study. WS shouldn’t be taught just one isolated time during the day but across the day. That is balanced literacy. @UCPS_ICTeam @AGHoulihan@Renee_McKinnon1 @jttopp #Literacy4U
Continuing our Toasts to Teachers! Can you get any more special than this? @UCPS_MonroeNC Director of Elementary Education @croffut_ci toasts her daughter a teacher at @MonroeHS_NC
