It's possible they are used at different concentrations than is permitted by EU law but they are the same chemicals and are safe

The point is that it just takes on the flavour of the fruit, and the bread gets soft in the juice so there's not much texture to it either. The pudding is mostly just fruit

@ZachWeiner To be clear, it's best to use crappy white bread, then you only get the flavour of the fruit. If you can taste the bread, something probably went wrong

@ZachWeiner The bread makes up the outside 'casing' of the pudding and it's filled with fruit and often added sugar. It's like a cold, soft fruit pie. Serve with cream it's really good, and also super easy to make and try!
