New Cronos EVM Mainet v1.8 upgrade is targeted for October 22, 2026

[Thomas @nguy_thomas]

Excited to share that the Cronos EVM mainnet v1.8 upgrade is targeted for October 22, 2026.

This is a huge milestone for the base layer, integrating with the latest Cosmos SDK while delivering native parallel execution, lower propagation latency, and much deeper Ethereum compatibility.

Here’s what’s under the hood:

- Parallel EVM (Block-STM): Native multi-threaded execution embedded directly into the Cosmos SDK layer for higher sustained throughput.

- Faster Networking: Swapped the P2P stack to libp2p and introduced an app-side mempool to cut block turnaround overhead.

- 90%+ EVM Equivalence: Added 80+ Ethereum API methods so native tooling and dApps work seamlessly out of the box.

- Plus 40+ upstream stability fixes.

Simulation & Benchmark Highlights:

- Faster Block Times: Shaved block propagation latency by ~20%, sustaining median block times under 400ms across high-load sweeps.

- Throughput Headroom: Multi-node cluster simulations showed significant double-digit throughput gains alongside lower gas saturation before approaching network limits.

Peak Execution Ceiling: In ideal single-node batching tests, the engine delivered a ~15% boost in peak execution throughput at the hardware limit with zero execution stalls.

Validators and node operators, please check out the migration guide to prep your nodes ahead of the 22nd.

Cronos v1.8 is now live on mainnet.

With this upgrade, we are bringing ~20% faster median block times, an app-side mempool for lower latency and 90%+ EVM API equivalence.

Thank you to every validator, node operator and builder who helped us ship it.

The Cronos v1.8 mainnet upgrade is starting now.

Block production will pause at block 101,485,000, with around 30 minutes of expected downtime. The explorer, EVM mainnet endpoints, Cronos Portal mainnet endpoints and IBC transactions are expected to resume once the network is back.

On-chain state is unchanged. We will post here once the upgrade is complete.

[Cronos Network @CronosNetwork]

The Cronos v1.8 mainnet upgrade is happening today, 22 Oct 2026.

The upgrade is set for block 101,485,000, expected between 7AM and 8AM UTC. Track the countdown: https://t.co/fHgWr3yx8x

Expect around 30 minutes of downtime. Block production, the explorer, EVM mainnet endpoints, Cronos Portal mainnet endpoints and IBC transactions will be unavailable during the upgrade.

All on-chain state carries over unchanged, and regular users don't need to do anything. Node operators, please upgrade cronosd to v1.8.0 at the upgrade height.

[Cronos Network @CronosNetwork]

Cronos v1.8 goes live on mainnet tomorrow, 22 Oct 2026.

Node operators, please have the official v1.8 binary ready.

We will post an update here once the upgrade is complete.

[Cronos Network @CronosNetwork]

@SantoshiOG Thank you for the support and for building for the Cronos community, @SantoshiOG

[Cronos Network @CronosNetwork]

2 days until Cronos v1.8 goes live on mainnet.

We are on track for the mainnet upgrade on 22 Oct 2026.

Node operators, please have the official v1.8 binary ready. The upgrade guide has the steps you need.

Both tokenomics proposals have passed.

228,000,000 CRO has been burned from the community pool, bringing the total to 428,000,000 CRO.

100% of Ult and Cronos Launch revenue will now buy CRO on the open market and burn it monthly, with every transaction hash published.

Staking rewards are unchanged, funded by the Strategic Reserve.

Thank you to everyone who voted.
