I havent posted for a while, but I decided it’s finally time to I’m delete Twitter from my phone—no need to give the fascists more ad revenue. Not deleting my account yet, but I’ll consider it. It’s been nice knowing you all, and I’ll hope to see you again under bluer skies 🥲
I did a podcast with Paul Duffell on imaging exoplanets, and now it's out! I had a lot of fun on it, and Paul was a great host, but he has zero social media presence, so I'm spreading the word.

Some exciting Fri morning news! Some of you may know I have been working on an introductory level Python textbook for astronomy --- it is now published! https://t.co/y6K0YE55RC Anyone with institutional IOP access should be able to view the PDF for free.
Thrilled to share that, after three wonderful years at Census, I’ll be joining @USCPrice as an assistant professor this fall.
I couldn’t be more excited to be back at a policy school and to work with the amazing faculty, undergrads, MPPers, and PhD students at Price. #FightOn
Cant go to my office today because my ID wont get me in. First time ever in my West Indian life that I feel bad about being told to stay home from work (!!) But my employer just doesnt want faculty present to witness whatever they are going to pull on protesting students today
This is the face* of a man who will not teach a class** for the next 16 months. Lots of grading to do, but Happy Sabbatical to me!
* I honestly thought I was smiling but apparently I’m too tired?
** at my usual institution at least
@jwuphysics Thanks!! I’ll be at U de Chile in Santiago for the fall doing a little bit of teaching but focusing on research, and in the spring I’ll mostly be at home doing research and figuring out the next 30 years (or at least the next 5) post-tenure.
Never forget THIS is the dude NYT Opinion put its reputation on the line for, pretending he wasn’t calling for violence against protesters - something he’s obviously continuing to do.
Wow! For the last decade, astronomers have been mumbling about low metallicity as a way to produce the massive BHs we see in gravitational wave events. Here is the first empirical validation of these models! And a giant, only 600 pc away. There must be a boatload more.
