What an empowering day for democracy! 💜 It was a profound privilege to connect with California’s fierce advocate for justice, my friend, Attorney General Rob Bonta @AGRobBonta ! Standing together at the SEIU 721 @SEIU721 Get Out The Vote event, supporting the power of union strong members, reaffirmed my commitment to Communication First principles 🗳️

I’m running for Governor because New Mexicans need an experienced leader and fighter. And this Tuesday, together, we’ll take one step closer to making that future a reality.
In all sorts of data, Native folks get recorded as the wrong race, like hispanic or white. In California schools, 90 percent of Native students aren’t counted in state data. That means services and programs for Native students don’t get enough funding. https://t.co/nnEEQHJHD6

With our partners at @pukuu_ccs, we passed our motion declaring this week to be Missing and Murdered Indigenous Persons (MMIP) Awareness Week.
MMIP is an epidemic, especially for young people in this community -- let's all do our part to raise awareness.🔴
#LACounty proclaims May 4–11, 2026 as Missing and Murdered Indigenous Peoples (MMIP) Awareness Week. Residents and County staff are invited to wear red on May 5 in solidarity with survivors and to help raise awareness.
Honoring lives. Raising awareness.

Los Angeles County has officially moved to proclaim May 4–11, 2026, as Missing and Murdered Indigenous Peoples (MMIP) Awareness Week. This initiative addresses a long-standing crisis where Native American and Alaska Native (AIAN) individuals face disproportionately high rates of violence, abduction, and homicide.
The Crisis and Its Roots
The MMIP movement highlights a systemic issue rooted in historical trauma, including:
Historical Context: Impacts of colonization, forced labor, and the boarding school system across Spanish, Mexican, and American rule.
Socioeconomic Factors: High rates of poverty, housing instability, and justice system disparities that increase vulnerability.
Underreporting: A critical lack of comprehensive data and media attention means the true number of missing and murdered Indigenous people—particularly women—is likely much higher than official records suggest.
Legislative and Safety Actions
California, home to the largest AIAN population in the U.S., has implemented several tools to combat this crisis:
The Feather Alert (AB 1314): A statewide emergency notification system, similar to an Amber Alert, designed specifically to locate missing Indigenous individuals.
Enhanced Coordination (AB 44): Grants federally recognized tribes access to the California Law Enforcement Telecommunications System to improve data sharing.
Youth Advocacy: The Tutčint Power Fellowship (via Pukúu Cultural Community Services) led the youth-driven effort to establish this awareness week in partnership with County Supervisors.
Board Directives
The motion outlines three primary actions for the County:
1.- Public Proclamation: Recognizing MMIP Awareness Week (May 4–11) to educate the public.
2.- Solidarity: Encouraging staff and residents to wear red on May 5 to honor survivors and victims.
3.- Accountability: Requesting the Sheriff’s Department to clarify its Feather Alert procedures and report back in 60 days with a system to track and report these alerts annually.

Today, we honor Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls.
Take a moment to look at the faces of these missing Indigenous girls. Your awareness could help bring them home: https://t.co/iiRfewqtP7

We are with our relatives across the country as they gather & march for our missing & murdered loved ones. Even though it is exhausting & heartbreaking, our people will demand justice for as long as it takes.

We’re officially 30 days out from election day, New Mexico, and early voting starts next week.
I’m ready to deliver more affordable housing, strengthen our schools, give New Mexicans a raise, recruit more doctors, and so much more.
Are you with me?
ICE use metal battering ram to break down front door—with 3 kids age 6-12 inside screaming in fear.
Agents point assault rifles directly at the children—while violently detaining their father in front of them.
"The young children are screaming in absolute terror 'Papá!'—you can hear them from all the way out here," said witness.
Clemente Chilel Ramírez said that no search warrant had been presented for his arrest on private property.
Local ICE office responded that it is gathering information before issuing a statement.
Incident occurred in the Estrella Village neighborhood on the southwest side of Phoenix, Arizona.
It was powerful to march with the community on Lake Street today.
The fight for good jobs, fair wages, and good working conditions for all continues - and I'm with you.
Full circle moment today 🎓✨
Got my Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) graduation sash today at @csunorthridge, and the nostalgia is hitting hard. I started my journey at CSUN back in ’96 through EOP, and it changed the trajectory of my life. @EOP_CSUN
Since then, I’ve made it my mission to pay it forward and help as many folks as possible get into CSUN through this incredible program.
It’s more than just a sash; it’s a legacy. ❤️🙌
And I got to share this experience the experience with this beautiful native woman.

Trump is selling off America’s parks to polluters.
California is building them.
Today, we’re adding THREE new state parks — protecting them for generations!
just learned it’s legal for ICE to detain a woman or girl and take her to a HOTEL ROOM if there isn’t enough space for her in detention! @HiltonHotels has a contract with ICE meaning a lot of these pregnant teenagers were raped and impregnated IN A HILTON HOTEL ROOM!
Now RFK Jr. is saying, “We’re going to make Indian Country healthy again.” 🙄 Plz, the U.S. gov will never make Native Americans “healthy again.” Native health disparities r a direct result of colonialism–which disrupted our ways of life & food systems. https://t.co/vy1T8krVIS
My parents came to California with $12 in their pocket and built a life here.
That's the California dream — and I'm running for Governor to fight for it.
Lower costs, stronger families, and a firewall against everything Donald Trump is trying to take from us.
