In 2023, I was a critic.
I distrusted the APC like many in my generation. From the years of unrest and a weak post-COVID recovery, the Buhari government left too many scars: policy drift, economic pain, and political deceit from an establishment that felt disconnected from the people. I was disillusioned. My conviction then was clear. The opposition offered the better path. I acted on it. I organised. I spoke. I put my own resources behind that belief.
Three years later, I have changed my position.
I did not arrive at this overnight. I arrived here after years of tracking policy effects and watching results compound. Not because it is convenient. Not because I was paid. Because the reforms, the vision, and the leadership President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has shown have moved the country in a direction I can no longer honestly deny. Fuel subsidy removal was painful. FX unification was painful. But the architecture of a functioning economy is being rebuilt in public, with determination. That is leadership, not sloganeering.
Some will be upset to see me pivot. Others will cheer. I understand. Loyalty to a 2023 posture is easier than loyalty to results. I choose the latter. Nigeria cannot be frozen in 2023 arguments while 2027 and the future demand decisions.
I respect those who still stand with the opposition. I admire their persistence and the constituencies they speak for. Democracy needs that contest, and I will continue to advocate for it. I simply no longer believe their current path is the one that puts Nigeria on a consistent road to greatness.
The Renewed Hope agenda, however imperfect in execution, now contains the ingredients required: fiscal realism, infrastructure ambition, and a president willing to take politically costly decisions. That is what I am backing.
I have always practised active citizenship. I have supported candidates with my time, my voice, and my resources for free. That same energy and vigour will be deployed ahead of 2027. Not as a convert seeking applause, but as a Nigerian who has watched the data, lived the pain, and decided the country must keep moving.
