दृष्टीबाधित बंधू-भगिनींना ब्रेल लिपीच्या माध्यमातून नवसंजीवनी देणारे संशोधक लुई ब्रेल यांच्या स्मरणार्थ दरवर्षी ४ जानेवारी हा दिवस जगभरात 'जागतिक ब्रेल दिन' म्हणून साजरा केला जातो. दृष्टिबाधित बांधवांसाठी हा दिवस खूप खास आहे. या दिनाचे औचित्य साधुन दृष्टिबाधित शबनम अन्सारी आणि भूषण ठोंमरे यांच्यासह डॉ. सुमित पाटील यांनी ब्रेल लिपीतील नावाची पाटी दिली, त्याबद्दल त्यांचे आभार मानले. ब्रेल लिपीचा प्रचार आणि प्रसार करण्यासाठी सर्वतोपरी सहकार्य करण्याची ग्वाही यावेळी दिली.
