Bristol VA Public Schools K-12 ESL Teacher,
Region VII Rep and Vice President for the Virginia EL Supervisors' Association,
Adjunct Faculty at King University
I was honored to receive the Distinguished Service and Excellence in Teaching awards at the @VirginiaESLSA#VESA2023 conference. I received these for the small divisions, who work tirelessly with an office of one, to provide quality instruction for #MLLs Our MLs matter, too!
I had the pleasure of working with Wilson and Hillary on a regional networking session for the Title III Consortium Conference in Roanoke. @Title3Saunders#collaboration
@KatieToppel I have this struggle with so many products. I am THE ESL teacher for the division. I don't need 20 licenses for the same grade level, I need to be able to use resources across all grade levels.
@ELteachMN@RuslanaWesterl I agree, Jenny. This book study has been extremely beneficial for me and I am so glad I decided to join! @RuslanaWesterl is a wealth of knowledge and I am honored to learn under her.
Reading aloud to students is NOT just for elementary grades or for reading & writing classrooms. It’s for all grade levels, all students, all classrooms.
A read-aloud can be as short as 3-5 minutes. It can be a poem, excerpt, brochure, chapter, an article, etc. #WorldBookDay
If you don't have a copy of Teaching Language in Context, i highly recommend it. A functional approach to language is an equitable approach to language.
Such a rich learning experience last night at the "Teaching Language in Context" (Derewianka and Jones, 2012) Book Club session #2 with
@RuslanaWesterl. Scaffolding activities along the register continuum provides students more resources/tools for meaning-making.
@RuslanaWesterl I'm taking this as a personal invitation. I have been wanting to join this book study, but hadn't quite made up my mind. I will be registering soon!
