No reasonable person, including @hasanthehun, is saying that American Jews deserve violence or bear responsibility for it being committed against them. This has been repeated again, and again, and again.

The problem here is that 1) Israel does not represent all Jews, as this community openly says repeatedly, 2) Claiming that it does when Israel is committing genocide in the Gaza Strip DOES give bad actors a narrative to radicalize in ways that ultimately facilitate harm to Jews, and 3) Restricting any real conversation about this only makes the problem so much worse.

No one wants violence on American Jews or any other community. Violence is wrong. We debate with words and ideas, not weapons and hate.

It's also patently correct that support for genocide will foster strong reactions that can and should be condemned when they violently target Jews for being Jewish. These are not mutually exclusive concepts.

That's what Hasan is saying, and he's not wrong for saying it.

Supporting genocide is bad, actually. That doesn't mean people (including and especially historically persecuted groups like Jews and Muslims alike) should be targeted for it. Hasan in no way is saying otherwise. He's merely outlining a very painful reality of human existence: That violence begets more violence and, particularly, that identity-based violence fosters more identity-based violence.

This is why we must end support for Israel's genocide in the Strip. It's why we must facilitate and recognize Palestinian self-determination. It's why we must end this god forsaken nightmare that has done nothing but harm to Israeli Jews and Palestinians alike for generations.
