How far will it escalate this time? Since the 90s Thailand seems to have been stuck in an inherent loop of pro democracy movements getting suppressed by the old power establishment - sometimes ending in bloodshed, other times not.

Pro-democracy protesters have approached the gates of parliament, with crowd control police stationed inside.

The protesters are expressing their anger over the Constitutional Court's decision to suspend Pita pending an investigation into his eligibility to take office.

Thailand proves the hollowness of its democracy once again. It doesn't matter if you win a fair election when military coup makers have appointed 250 senators on top of the democratically elected 500 members of the House of Representatives.

"I'm not giving up yet," said Move Forward Party Leader Pita Limjaroenrat after failing to secure enough votes from the joint parliament to become the new prime minister today.

He stated that he will prepare for a revote. House Speaker Wan Muhamad Noor Matha said before the voting today that if a revote is necessary, the second voting will be scheduled around July 19.

Pita said there is still no plan in place for the scenario where he fails to obtain enough votes in the second voting.

He also expressed gratitude to the 13 senators who voted in his favor today.

I am old enough to remember that Thailand used to know election results within 1-2 days and had a new government within a week. Also Thailand used to have a fully elected Senate, which after a coup became half-elected, then after another coup fully appointed. We've regressed.
