@ERC_research project on 'Suspended Life: Exploring Cryopreservation Practices in Contemporary Societies' led by Thomas Lemke. Is there social life in the cold?
CRYOSOCIETIES is an ERC project @GoetheUni on cryopreservation of life - oocytes, cord blood, endangered animals & more - and its role in 21st c. #biopolitics. Doing ethnographies across Europe, we seek to understand the significance of #suspendedlife for contemporary societies.
Another thing I finally have time to type down after a couple of deadlines: our special issue on the politics of suspension is out this week in @biosocieties!
Featuring @cryosocieties, @HannahLandecker@SaraLF, Ruzana Liburkina, Thomas Lemke & Klaus Hoeyer
Was sind Biobanken, warum stehen sie in Naturkundemuseen und was erhoffen wir uns von ihnen? Jonas Astrin @toteraltermann versuchen sich im Podcast der @LeibnitzWGL an Antworten 👇
The @BritishAcademy_ funded Alumni project Animals on Ice 🧊 is underway @RadicalUCC! So far we have made ice candles and fridge magnet poetry in order to consider how creative methods allow us to think through temperature, extinction, and CryoConservation. 🦣
#Biobanken sind aus der #Forschung an #Naturkundemuseen nicht mehr wegzudenken. Interdisziplinäre #Podiumsdiskussion zu Biobanken in Museen des 21. Jh., Mi, 26. Juni 2024, 18 Uhr im Museum Koenig Bonn 👉 https://t.co/0PfTwx5eFT (Eintritt frei) @goetheunifrankfurt @cryosocieties
After nearly four years of working on it, I've finally got this article out in @Soc_Stud_Sci today: a little portrait of @cryoarks in particular and an account of the difficulties of biobanking more generally (Open Access)

By taking part in the survey, you could provide valuable insight into the importance of this issue for parenthood and healthcare.
Completing the survey will only take 15-20 minutes of your time.
We would appreciate your time and support!
Parenthood, pregnancy and umbilical cord blood: your opinion matters to us!
For our research project at the Goethe-University Frankfurt, we are conducting an online survey on experiences and opinions about cord blood banking and donation.
Another year, another #ReproSalon! So excited to share that we will be joined by the legendary Rayna Rapp from NYU! Really looking forward to reconnecting with all the #reproduction people in style. Tickets here:

@SaraLF It's of course also an extension of @HannahLandecker's and @sbrooksfranklin's work. If cells are technologies today, what for? What allows them to work as technologies, and to what extent do they operate these technologies themselves, rather than being operated?
Und wer diesen Donnerstag Abend noch Zeit hat: Um 18 Uhr findet auf dem Frankfurter Campus Westend die Buchpräsentation mit Podiumsdiskussion statt
