Now that we are all Bitcoin Maximalists, we need to take it to the next step and get rid of the confusion surrounding the monetary evolution of Bitcoin:
The news allows you to dedicate massive amounts of energy and attention to things you probably cannot impact while the things you can impact go unaddressed.
Those rent-seeking academics committing anachronistic fallacy don't seem to realize that, like science and everything else, moral values experience PROGRESS.
By definition the past will be less developed than the present. This, everyone outside of "classics" shmepartments knows
We strive to avoid hard things so we turn to shortcuts. When we run out of shortcuts, we're left with no choice but to do the hard thing we wanted to avoid in the first place. Much easier and faster to just stop avoiding hard things and face them.
@NeerajT4 Neither was Bitcoin, but a series of fortunate governance events (disappearance of Satoshi, slide into irrelevance of Bitcoin Foundation, failure of various fork movements by hierarchical org leaders) made it much more resilient vs. centralization. Anti-hierarchy immune system.
“We should expect to see the emergence of a new kind of autodidact/thinker/entrepreneur/businessperson/leader who has acquired most of their knowledge through self-exploration.”
— Sean Parker, The Education of Millionaires
One day a decentralized social network will emerge that is as pervasive as email
A network of apps will be connected by a simple social networking protocol (SSNP)
...just as email exists as a network of apps connected by the SMTP protocol (Gmail, Outlook, etc)
Never ever criticize anyone (say a politician) for doing something that you would be silent about if someone else did it.
You would be insulting your audience, insulting truth, insulting the medium you are using, insulting ethics.
True for storing/sharing files. It doesn't have to apply to storing value.
There is a higher tolerance for inconvenience when loss aversion/censorship is at play.
Great for Bitcoin. Not so for needlessly decentralised projects
Necessity should be the mother of decentralization
p2p file sharing history is littered w/ predictions that a new **unstoppable and totally decentralized** protocol will takeover.
It never happened. Users always flocked to the least decentralized system possible.
Big lesson for today's blockchain and decentralization ecosystems
The next time you see a decentralized app with a raw UX, remember how Twitter got its start.
Look out for new capabilities these dapps unlock and look for existing capabilities they bring to those without them today.
