Escalation of Cambodia-Thailand Border Conflict 💣

Many of you reached out today, concerned about the news of Cambodia’s attack on Thailand.
Yeah, it’s true—things kicked off, and it’s a mess.

Cambodia fired first, and it’s been a wild day at the border. Here’s the rundown of what went down on July 24, 2025

Timeline :

Early Morning ( 6:30 –8:46 AM): Cambodia accused Thai soldiers of sparking the conflict . They claim Thailand deployed a drone at 7:00 AM and fired warning shots by 8:30 AM. At 8:46 AM, Cambodia alleges Thai forces opened fire first, prompting a defensive response.
Thailand, however, insists Cambodian troops fired first after spotting a Thai drone and six armed Cambodian soldiers approaching Thai positions near the temple.

8:20–9:42 AM: Cambodian forces launched BM-21 rockets and artillery, striking civilian areas in Thailand, including Phanom Dong Rak hospital in Surin province and a gas station in Kantharalak, Sisaket province. Thai authorities report at least 11 civilians, including an 8-year-old boy, and one soldier killed, with 24 civilians and seven soldiers injured. Thailand condemned the hospital attack as a potential war crime.

9:42–10:51 AM: Fighting spread to six border areas, including Ta Moan Thom, Ta Kwai Temple, and locations in Surin, Ubon Ratchathani, and Sisaket provinces. Cambodia fired BM-21 rockets at the Border Development Centre in Kap Choeng, Surin, damaging civilian infrastructure. Thailand responded with artillery fire.

10:40–10:58 AM: Thailand deployed six F-16 jets, with one dropping two bombs on a road near Wat Kaew Seekha Kiri Svarak Pagoda in Cambodian territory, destroying a military target. Thailand claims it hit two Cambodian military bases. Cambodia denounced the airstrikes as “reckless aggression” against its sovereignty.

2:45 PM: Thailand’s 2nd Army Region reported artillery shells landing in central Kantharalak, Sisaket, urging residents to evacuate. Around 40,000 people from 86 Thai villages were relocated to shelters.

4:40 PM: Thailand’s 2nd Army Region confirmed an F-16 airstrike on a Cambodian military position south of Ta Moan Thom. Cambodia falsely claimed it shot down two Thai F-16s and that Thailand requested negotiations. Thai forces refuted this, providing photographic evidence of all jets returning safely and denying any negotiation requests.

Throughout the Day: Cambodia’s Defense Ministry spokesperson, Chhum Socheat, insisted they targeted only military sites, denying civilian attacks. However, Thai reports confirmed significant civilian casualties and damage to homes and public facilities. Residents in Surin province sought safety in fortified concrete shelters.

Thai citizens mobilized to donate blood, supporting hospitals treating those injured in the clashes and preparing for potential further escalation
