Woke up extremely bullish on DeFi and Ethereum today

Uniswap launched in the 2018 bear, when Ethereum sentiment was at all time lows

Uniswap and other defi projects relentlessly built through that bear market and proved how powerful Ethereum can be, catalyzing defi summer and everything since

Now vibes are down bad again and Uniswap intends to build our way out of it. Last time it was by proving defi is possible. This time it will be by proving defi is inevitable.

The internet brought two disruptive changes: existing businesses moving onto the internet, and the formation of new internet-native businesses

The same duality will exist for defi: the tokenization of all existing assets, and a growing vibrant economy of crypto native assets. And it’s all happening right now, with more and more assets being brought onchain, increasing the value and productivity of crypto native assets.

As this digital economy grows, Defi is being integrated everywhere - payment processors, brokerage accounts, asset issuers. It won't stop until we eat the entire global economy

Uniswap the liquidity layer + Ethereum the settlement layer. The perfect combination of low counterparty risk, permissionless, programmable infrastructure

And all this will result in huge growth in protocol volumes and fee generation. Which reminds me:

UNI burn hit all time highs today, after several new sources of protocol fees came online.

And there are many more to come: v4, uniswap x, aggregator hooks, more chains, etc

Now add in all the new assets coming onchain

We can’t beat Anthropic at their own game.

We need to start thinking about training models through completely new systems; ones that out-perform and move faster.

Affine (below) is a solution: a lab that’s just a market mechanism framing the problem “you have compute, you have engineers, how do you get SOTA”

Think of it like a global incentivized auto research which pays engineers/agents who lower the loss of a model against RL environments.

In other-words, it’s an AI lab but you get paid for contributing to the run by taking the current top model and training it further.

The beauty is that we let everything else stay mutable: how you copy, how you train, how you work, where you work, your compute procurement and your algorithms.

Turns out that’s a very hard game to line up especially when you exist in a global permissionless system which includes a lot of people that speak Korean …

This will prove to birth the first subnets on Bittensor that run headless and as true commodities.

Exploits are what teach a system its weak spots.
The quicker you find them the faster you learn.

The outcome of this eventful evening is that Bittensor will invent lock-based subnet ownership -- specifically: ownership of a subnet determined by a team's long term economic commitment to the project.

This will mean: 1) investors see long in advance if an owner has unlocked their tokens, 2) be able to reprice the subnet before the owner and 3) liquidly direct their own conviction to another team, or agent, to manage the system.

Thank you @DistStateAndMe for helping further Bittensor's decentralization and develop a solution to one of cryptos oldest problems: founders who rug their token holders.

Looking forward to training some 1T param models with the miners who are experts in this unique field.
