NFA. DYOR.
update on both:
withdrawals: they didn't stay open. paused, binance says back in ~48h
the ETH: split across 20+ fresh wallets, and the attacker is dumping alts into even more ETH
binance confirmed ~$6.3B total, cause points to one engineer's laptop 👇
What to watch next on Binance:
• Do withdrawals stay open?
• Where the ~195K ETH goes: bridge, mixer, or nowhere
• An official word from @binance
BNB fell as much as 9%, and ~$629M in longs got liquidated in an hour.

@BigDott50 that projection into 2027 is doing a lot of heavy lifting lol. would love it, but OTHERS/BTC has been bleeding since 2021, want to see one higher high first
@TheMoonShow "no evidence of key leak" is doing a lot of work here. if a laptop could push withdrawals without the keys thats a process problem, not a crypto one
Binance's initial investigation suggests that the security incident may involve a compromised DevOps engineer’s laptop, which allowed an attacker to gain access to a service container and submit unauthorized withdrawal transactions. We have found no evidence of any wallet private key leak. We will share a detailed technical post-mortem once the investigation is complete and the facts are fully verified.
The estimated total impact sits at around $6.3B. We have worked with blockchain partners to freeze affected assets, with ~$3 billion frozen on-chain so far.
Binance will cover all losses from the SAFU fund and the company’s funds. User funds are safe. We will also publish an updated Proof of Reserves once the remediation is complete.
As an immediate precaution, Binance has:
- temporarily suspended deposits and withdrawals while security checks are completed;
- revoked the affected address authorisation;
- engaged law enforcement and blockchain intelligence partners to trace and recover funds.
Our teams are working around the clock to resolve this issue safely and thoroughly. We are working closely with our law enforcement partners to confirm the identity of these criminals and bring them to justice.
Please rely only on official Binance channels for updates. Please feel free to contact Binance Customer Support if you have any further questions.

No private key was stolen. A laptop was.
Binance says a DevOps engineer's machine got compromised, the attacker got into a service container and just... submitted withdrawals. ~$6.3B total.
~$3B already frozen. Binance says SAFU + company funds cover the rest, withdrawals back in ~48h.
For scale, Bybit last year was ~$1.5B.
Meanwhile the exploiter is splitting funds across 20+ wallets and swapping UNI/LINK/AAVE into ETH. ETH is the part nobody can freeze.
Honest question: how does one laptop have withdrawal access to billions?

@ZachHumphries Not advice, but the usual rule: keep on exchanges only what you actively trade. Move the rest to a wallet you control, hardware if it's a big amount. And never share your seed phrase with anyone.
Binance hot wallet just moved ~$2.5B in one transaction to a fresh address funded through Tornado Cash.
Hack or internal shuffle? Nobody knows yet. Binance hasn’t confirmed anything.
But here’s what’s already real: ~$600M in longs got wiped out in an hour. On a rumor.
CZ warned days ago that AI will make phishing and scams way harder to spot. Now imagine fake “Binance hacked” screenshots made in 10 seconds.
Wait for confirmation before you panic
@Standout_x Fair caution, but one detail weakens the reshuffle theory: Tether froze 1.5B+ USDT and Circle ~823M USDC. Issuers don't freeze an exchange moving its own funds.
A $2.7B transfer is alarming. It still isn’t proof of a hack.
On-chain trackers flagged billions in assets moving from wallets attributed to Binance across five blockchains. Binance hasn’t confirmed a breach, and the transfers could be an internal reshuffle.
Meanwhile, Ethena says its exchange-exposed collateral is held with off-exchange custodians.
For now, this is a developing security concern—not a confirmed Binance hack.
@philarekt That wallet kept going. Analyst Spreek counts ~$3.55B incoming, with ~$900M already pushed out to other wallets. Tether and Circle froze a big chunk, but ETH can't be frozen.
@CryptosR_Us Update on the freeze: Tether is now at 1.5B+ USDT per Paolo Ardoino, plus ~823M USDC from Circle. The part nobody can freeze is the ~195K ETH. That's the trail to watch.
@QmoCrypto Careful mixing these up. Bitget's hack was in September, ~$387M. Bybit's big one was Feb 2025, ~$1.5B. Tonight it's Binance only, and they say they're still investigating.
@CryptoTweets Even at the low end (~$3.3B) it would beat Bybit's ~$1.5B. But 1.5B+ USDT and ~823M USDC are already frozen, so the real loss could end up much smaller.
$2.77B just walked out of Binance wallets across 5 chains
BNB down 9%, $600M in longs gone in an hour, Tether and Circle reportedly freezing funds
