Newly published w/ @moveucsb in @cartographyGIS: "Assessing the cognition of movement trajectory visualizations: interpreting speed and direction" https://t.co/YPdYbM9mbR We evaluate static/dynamic #movement displays; ongoing work on 2D/3D to come! Happy to share access. #dataviz
New paper! A fun collaboration with the Twitterless Dan Montello. Here we looked whether people take the same routes from A to B and from B to A. Turns out they don't. But the way they don't is interesting...
Just doing this for fun before I have to go teach but happy to take suggestions; some other interesting views were total voter turnout numbers and raw votes, but want to normalize for population (does anyone have that for the new ward precinct boundaries? https://t.co/90LaTz6Kuy)
Whipped up a results map from the mayoral runoff yesterday using Chicago Board of Election Commissioners data from @BlockClubCHI & match on color scheme from map by @BauerJournalism! Strong showing for Johnson in S&W sides; high turnout for Vallas from police strongholds in Chi.
@pokateo_ Prep lectures but also make quick maps of Chicago mayoral runoff voting/results! Stoked for @Brandon4Chicago (work-in-progress obviously, but wanted to look deeper into the results shown on the @BlockClubCHI map)
@laurie_merrell This is amazing. I haven't been here even 2 years and have already convinced a couple others they want to move here. All it takes is hosting them here for a weekend or so. 😁
Now having way too much fun (and probably spending way too much time) with topic modelling and generative AI art just to create project groups in my intro GIS class.
For posterity, on this day in late October in 2022 on a particularly busy day of meetings and office hours, my ratio of in-person to online meetings was 5:3. We're slowly coming back! (I give students the option now; last year I only held online office hours.)
This will be my first winter living in an apartment with radiator heating. It's early October and already have to keep the windows open. Interesting to think about their connection to earlier pandemic response: https://t.co/ULeGmOuk3t
@Ruth_C_Dalton Haha, in California we had small wall heaters and rarely needed them. In the DC area I grew up in newer housing with forced air heating. I'm living in a pretty old building in Chicago now, and it's typical here to have radiators. Just new to me!
@curious_founder If you don't want to spend on new gloves and already have ski gloves, those work well for keeping off the wind (unfrozen fingers are so important).
Excellent students, very reasonable teaching load, room and support for research, and located in the best city (& arguably the best neighborhood too). Happy to chat more about my experience here!
Instructional Professor position open for teaching GIS at @UChicagoSSD with great colleagues @GeoDaCenter - emphasis on open source GIS, spatial analysis, spatial stats, optimization: https://t.co/AWzTPRH2NQ #gischat
In Kobe for the first #cosit2022 conference to be held in Asia! 🇯🇵 We're kicking things off this morning for Day 1. See conf proceedings here: https://t.co/9Nx7gkFmm5 #spatialinformation
