1/ I'm a cardiologist. I've practiced for twenty-five years, through a lot of "breakthroughs" that turned out to be press releases. So understand the weight of what I'm about to say: I have never seen a single week in medicine like the one we just lived through.
In the span of a few days, four separate scientific breakthroughs landed. The stock market treated them as four unrelated stories and sent a handful of biotech companies soaring. But that's the shallow read. Look closer and they are not four stories at all. They are four faces of the same story — the biggest shift in medicine since the discovery of antibiotics.
Medicine is becoming programmable. Individualized. Written for one human being instead of the average of millions.
Let me walk you through exactly what happened, in plain language, and show you where this is actually headed. Because the future arrived quietly this week, and most people scrolled right past it.
Massive seismic trucks are about to roll across frozen tundra where polar bear mothers are hiding with newborn cubs, hunting for oil nobody’s ever found there. 🐻❄️
So Alaska’s own government decided to gamble anyway, with public money.
The Alaska Industrial Development and Export Authority (AIDEA) just approved $175 million for seismic testing on the refuge's coastal plain, the "1002 area" along the Beaufort Sea.
Here's what that actually means. Heavy trucks, moving slowly across the frozen tundra, firing sound waves deep into the permafrost to map what oil might be trapped underneath.
This work has to happen in winter, when the ground is frozen hard enough to carry the weight.
That's the exact same season Southern Beaufort Sea polar bear mothers are denning in snowdrifts across this same stretch of coastline, out of sight, with cubs too small to run.
The government's own review acknowledges this activity is likely to kill polar bear cubs in their dens.
Scientists at the University of Alaska Fairbanks have already warned that these trucks scar the tundra for decades.
This side of the refuge doesn't have the reliable snow or water to build the ice roads that protect the ground elsewhere on the North Slope.
The man running this $175 million gamble, AIDEA's executive director, is Governor Mike Dunleavy's own former chief of staff.
That's $175 million in public money, chasing oil that professional geologists with billions on the line won't touch.
Meanwhile, in rural Alaska, a gallon of milk costs $7.99. In the most remote villages, some pay $12, even $20, for that same gallon.
Gas topped $10 a gallon in some villages this year.
$175 million buys a lot of milk. A lot of gas. Instead, it's buying seismic trucks timed to polar bear denning season.
Dunleavy endorsed Trump in 2024. Trump has since appointed him to a seat on the U.S. Arctic Research Commission.
That seat is legally reserved for Arctic researchers.
Dunleavy has no such background.
Critics have called the appointment unlawful outright.
His own spokesperson's justification, that he's eligible because state agencies under him "conduct" research, was widely mocked as a stretch.
This is also the calving ground of the Porcupine caribou herd. Sacred land the Gwich'in have depended on for generations.
If Big Oil won't bet on this land, if it kills bear cubs in their dens to find out, and Alaskans still can't afford groceries, who exactly is this $175 million for?

This is what the fake "free speech" advocates have built: an administration that harasses critics. Produce research showing the expensive National Guard deployments didn't lower crime? Get sued by Trump's lawyers https://t.co/O1BCOK1Xgx
🚨 DICTATOR MOVES
Today, August 21, 2026, @realDonaldTrump Education Department has taken formal steps toward stripping the American Bar Association (ABA) of its federal recognition as the accreditor of U.S. law schools.
The ABA has held this role since 1952 and currently accredits nearly 200 law schools. Recognition is required for schools to access federal student aid in most cases, and ABA accreditation is the standard pathway for graduates to sit for the bar exam in most states.
BUT HERE'S WHY THIS IS HAPPENING — REVENGE.
A March 2026 analysis by America First Legal reviewed 87 American Bar Association amicus briefs filed between April 2016 and February 2026, OPPOSING @realDonaldTrump actions, policies, and/or executive orders.
In April 2026, the ABA filed an amicus brief in the D.C. Circuit supporting law firms (Perkins Coie and others) challenging Trump's executive orders that targeted those firms.
The ABA has also been a direct plaintiff in litigation against the Trump regime alleging a "law firm intimidation policy."
So now, this MAGA regime wants to strip the ABA of their recognition as a law school accreditor.
NEWS: First Trump's Pentagon killed the rule protecting Stars and Stripes from censorship. Then it fired the watchdog Congress created. Now it's fired the editor, publisher, and a war correspondent ten days after they reported on sailors going hungry aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln, nine months into a deployment in his Iran war. That's not a coincidence. That's a cover-up, one step at a time, and our troops are the ones paying the price.
Trump announced they are importing a bunch of foreign beef (with your tax dollars) and then selling it at a 25% loss to appease the consumers before the midterms. Not only is that communism, it undercuts American beef producers. Why they still support Trump I'll never understand
Around $12 trillion, or roughly 30% of today's entire $40 trillion U.S. national debt, was added by the two Trump administrations.
Vance is lying. As usual.
From a top reporter at Stars and Stripes. The Defense Dept also fired the publisher Max D. Lederer Jr., and editor-in-chief Erik Slavin for “insubordination” in other words for being part of a free press.
OK let’s do this again: after Covid vaccines were widely available by spring 2021, beginning with the delta wave, 80-85% of the Covid deaths occurred among the unvaccinated. The other 15% I seem to remember were roughly split between those who received only one dose vs 2 doses, so only about 7% of deaths occurred among fully vaccinated and even then most of those did not get boosted after the virus mutated to later variants. The vaccines afforded 90-95% vs Covid deaths. So overwhelmingly refusing Covid vaccines and contracting Covid was the reason so many Americans perished after July 2021. Details are in my 2023 book The Deadly Rise of Anti-Science @JHUPress
Did you guys hear about the woman in Iran who was sentenced to 12 years in prison because authorities believed her stillbirth was an abortion?
Nevermind y'all, my mistake, that happened in Oklahoma
EXCLUSIVE: Ten years ago, David Michael Levin was convicted of hacking into government election websites.
Now, he appears to have been hired by the Trump DOJ to...wait for it...monitor elections. https://t.co/a4x0e6oM3L
Today, I was informed that the Department of Defense is firing me for insubordination after I told a CBS reporter that I work for Stars and Stripes – not the Pentagon, not any administration, and not any policy maker.
BREAKING NYT:
A month after the Trump admin declared without evidence that thousands of noncitizens had illegally registered to vote in Nevada, DHS officials were unable to substantiate the claim — finding just 185 potential anomalies, not the 16,000 claimed last month. https://t.co/E8uqezRmTB
