So incredibly proud of my first PhD @DeaVarley who also received a Dean’s award for Outstanding Research Thesis. Deanna has earned her accolades ten-fold, and received the inaugural compassion lab Doctoral Sword to defend truth and cut through misinformation.
A massive congratulations to Dr @DeaVarley who graduated today at @UQ_News @UQPsych with a 2024 Dean’s Award for Outstanding Higher Degree by Research Theses! @csherwell and I couldn’t be more happy for you Deanna! Woohoo!!!!!
Today our lab sadly said farewell to the amazing Ibrahim Al-Rashed. Ibrahim has been a driving force behind much of our online intervention work, and while it's sad to see him go, we're sure he's going to be doing incredible work. Thanks for everything @Eeb_psy
@Eeb_psy@JamesNKirby@StanSteindl Truly, within 30 minutes you produced a masterclass in how to achieve maximal impact with limited resources (time, attention, etc.). Well done, Ibrahim
Honoured to be a plenary speaker at the 2024 #uqcompassion symposium. Year upon year, this event has proven to be the most inclusive, open, honest, and enlightening meeting of cross-disciplinary professionals I've ever attended.
Super pumped about this! How come compassionate people often don’t act compassionately? One step closer to understanding (and targeting) the action-intent divide
Sometimes, we don't help others because we believe we can't, and not because we don't want to.

What a fantastic day sharing our work at the UQ Learning Lab symposium last week. It’s been great seeing how our partnerships with schools, industry organisations, and educators has grown over the last 18 months #UQLL22@HASSUQ
Looking forward to today’s Partnering for Transformation session hosted by the @UQ_News Learning Lab to hear about industry and education experiences with using the science of learning to inform practice.
@DeplazesEvelyne@PhDForum@HaPhDsupervisor 1) do you see yourself as a team leader or a team player? 2) do you thrive with independence or a lot of structure? 3) would you prefer to be a jack of all trades or an expert in a specific area?
Take your time to check out the Cognitive Disorder Atlas! A useful tool to understand some clinically relevant relationships between brain structure and focal neuropsychological syndromes
📣 Well it’s happened Choose Compassion is officially out now. Thank you @UQPbooks@Madonbooks@margotlloyd for all your help & support. And big shout out to my wife @CassieTellegen for your patience & encouragement. Time for a coffee & a read ☕️ 📖🙏♥️🪷 https://t.co/muXd8kmli7
How can you act to gain information and rewards from the environment if you haven’t figured out what you have control over? Our new preprint looks at environment selection and foraging for agency information. Check it out! https://t.co/raB4BDnsrg With @hohwy @JonnyRobinson6
Yes, I’m dirty about that 1%, and dirtier about being offered courses in MATLAB. Capability is not indexed by throwing random functions at someone and asking them to predict the output - that’s literally the point of MATLAB.
MATLAB is my mathematical playground, a blank canvas upon which I *intuit* the appropriate commands to bend data to my will and intent, and run meticulous sanity checks. In other words, multiple choice quizzes are a scam - the world is an open book exam.
