Addressed the ceremony to hand over the "Guinness World Record Certificate" jointly to Central Road Research Institute (#CSIR-CRRI), New Delhi and Jindal Steel Limited.
Takeaways:
"Steel Slag Road Technology can substantially extend the maintenance cycle, with maintenance of roads required only after about 15 years in suitable applications, making it a breakthrough with implications not only for road engineering but also for the overall infrastructure economy. Most importantly, it reduces road construction cost by around 40 per cent while delivering four times the strength of conventional roads.
Proud to preside over the conferment of the Guinness World Record for the “World’s Longest Road Built with Processed Steel Slag Aggregates”, jointly pursued by CSIR-Central Road Research Institute (CSIR-CRRI) New Delhi and Jindal Steel Limited. The 1.85-km road at Raigarh, Chhattisgarh, marks a major scale-up of an indigenous technology that converts processed steel slag, a by-product of steel production, into aggregates for road construction. Meanwhile, work on a 40 km steel slag road has already started.
A purely indigenous technology now being adopted by other countries as well, beginning from Oman, which lives up to the dictum of "Made in India, Made for the World". Also, simultaneously lives up to more than one flagship priorities of this government, including PM Sh @narendramodi ji's repeated emphasis on "Waste to Wealth" recycling options.
It is time now to move on from one project to many projects and from one State to many States, with its adoption extending beyond the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways to Railways, other Government departments, State Governments and private builders, contractors and infrastructure operators".
A proud moment for Indian innovation. Our 1.85 km four lane road at Raigarh, built using nearly 200,000 tonnes of processed steel slag, has been recognised as the world's longest steel slag road by Guinness World Records.
What many saw as industrial waste, we saw as a national resource. Working with the scientists of CSIR-CRRI, we transformed it into high performance road aggregates. Every tonne used means less quarrying, fewer natural resources consumed, and less pressure on our hills and ecosystems.

औषधीय एवं सुगंधित पौधों की खेती से किसानों की आय बढ़ाने की अपार संभावनाएँ
सीएसआईआर-सीमैप, लखनऊ में 08–11 सितंबर 2026 के दौरान आयोजित चार दिवसीय “कौशल-सह-प्रौद्योगिकी उन्नयन कार्यक्रम” का सफलतापूर्वक समापन हुआ।
देश के 15 राज्यों के 43 जनपदों से 62 प्रतिभागियों, जिनमें 09 महिला किसान शामिल थीं, ने वैज्ञानिक खेती, प्रसंस्करण, आसवन, सुगंधित तेलों के गुणवत्ता मूल्यांकन, मूल्य संवर्धन एवं विपणन की नवीनतम तकनीकों का प्रशिक्षण प्राप्त किया।
प्रतिभागियों को लेमनग्रास, मिंट, सिट्रोनेला, खस, जिरेनियम, सतावर, कलमेघ, सर्पगंधा, अश्वगंधा एवं तुलसी जैसी महत्वपूर्ण फसलों की उन्नत खेती के साथ-साथ आसवन अपशिष्ट से मशरूम, पर्यावरण-अनुकूल कटलरी एवं वर्मी कम्पोस्ट निर्माण जैसी मूल्य संवर्धन तकनीकों की भी जानकारी दी गई।
निदेशक डॉ. प्रबोध कुमार त्रिवेदी ने कहा कि औषधीय एवं सुगंधित पौधे कृषि विविधीकरण, मूल्य संवर्धन, रोजगार एवं किसानों की आय वृद्धि के महत्वपूर्ण अवसर प्रदान करते हैं।
डॉ. संजय कुमार, समन्वयक, प्रशिक्षण कार्यक्रम ने संस्थान द्वारा प्रदत्त सेवाओं, गतिविधियों एवं महत्ता के बारें मे बताया। तत्पश्चात डॉ. रमेश कुमार श्रीवास्तव ने व्यापार विकास के अंतर्गत होने वाली गतिविधियों व हर्बल उत्पादों की तकनीकियों के बारे मे प्रतिभागियों को बताया।

Strengthening India–Russia cooperation in science, technology and innovation
A productive and insightful interaction with colleagues from St. Petersburg State University and the S.I. Vavilov Institute for the History of Science and Technology of the Russian Academy of Sciences (IHST RAS), including the Director of its St. Petersburg Branch.
Held under the CSIR–St. Petersburg State University Seed Funding Programme, the interaction focused on our joint research project and explored emerging opportunities for collaborative research and knowledge exchange.
The discussions highlighted avenues for deepening institutional partnerships and advancing collaborative research at the intersection of AI, renewable energy, sustainability and science policy.

"ESTIC-2026 will be held from 27–29 October 2026 at Bharat Mandapam, Delhi with inauguration by PM Sh @NarendraModi ji. Faculty to include three Nobel Laureates and several international award winning speakers.
ESTIC was conceived last year as part of a new approach to bring together multiple components of the science and technology ecosystem on a common platform rather than having several fragmented events.
50-60 percent of #StartUps are now coming from small towns and not metros. They deserve greater access to experts, entrepreneurs, business leaders and markets to scale up.
India’s next Innovation wave must come from beyond metros. For that, break silos, build bridges from lab to market. Need for wider integration of management and communication with science to scale innovation".

As part of the event, Prof. Sood gave an address highlighting the success of the inaugural edition of ESTIC in 2025. The ESTIC 2026, at its core, embodies the theme “Creative Minds, Catalyzing Science, Empowering Technologies,” which Prof. Sood mentioned is the guiding principle behind the conclave’s design.
Highlighting the conclave’s thoughtfully designed ecosystem, he mentioned that it serves as an intergenerational exchange bringing together 13 ministries, policymakers, researchers, and entrepreneurs. Mentioning the twelve identified themes of ESTIC 2026, Prof. Sood shared his views on how these themes are relevant to India’s aspirations and global challenges.
The presence of Nobel Laureates such as Dr Joachim Frank; Sir Richard J. Roberts; Prof. Kostya Novoselov alongside globally eminent leaders, underscores the depth of scientific excellence that ESTIC 2026 brings, he mentioned. One Nation One Subscription (ONOS) | Second Phase
The One Nation One Subscription (ONOS), a landmark initiative providing access to scholarly e-journals for academic and R&D institutions, is proposed to enter its second phase of implementation. This phase may further expand ONOS to Private Universities and Private Deemed to be Universities. The expansion will enable more institutions to access scholarly knowledge resources. A consultative meeting with relevant stakeholders is being planned as part of this process and Institutions interested in participating are invited to register.
The initiative launched on 1 January 2025, aligns with the vision of Viksit Bharat@2047. The Government of India approved the ONOS scheme to provide nationwide access to high-impact international research articles and journal publications. The scheme benefits students, faculty and researchers in government higher education institutions. ONOS supports students, faculty and researchers across the country getting access to more than 13,000 journals from 30+ publishers, it also provides an opportunity to publish in open access journals.

CSIR–NIIST transferred its JAIVAM technology to M/s Kerala Integrated Development Foundation, Kozhikode. JAIVAM is an engineered microbial consortium developed to accelerate the aerobic composting of organic waste from household composting units and Organic Waste Converters (OWCs) to large-scale composting facilities. The technology transfer reflects CSIR–NIIST’s continued commitment to converting scientific knowledge into deployable technologies, supporting sustainable practices, and contributing to a circular and resource-efficient future. @CSIR_IND@DrJitendraSingh #TechnologyTransfer
