Former DEVGRU (SEAL Team 6) operator Eddie Penney spent 20 years in uniform, first as a Marine infantryman and then as a Navy SEAL.

After two combat tours with SEAL Team 2, he joined DEVGRU's Gold Squadron and spent the next years as an assaulter and breacher on some of the most high risk missions of the Global War on Terror. Seven deployments took him through Iraq, Afghanistan, and Africa, where he conducted hundreds of direct-action raids and helped refine wall breach tactics when the enemy started stacking the “fatal funnel” at the front door.

The tempo and closeness of that fight left a mark. Penney has spoken openly about the adrenaline and killing that became its own addiction, the brothers lost, including the devastating blow of Extortion 17 to Gold Squadron, and the quiet weight of survivor’s guilt that followed him home. He also carried the rare burden of becoming a single father of three while still on active duty, proving that the same discipline that kept him alive on target had to be rebuilt for bedtime stories and school drop-offs.

Today Penney channels that experience into Contingent Group, the security firm he founded, and into the book Unafraid and the ministry that grew from it.

Quiet professionals rarely seek the spotlight. When one of them does, the lesson is worth hearing.
