A timeless sad song from the 1965 classic movie Arzoo.
Sung exquisitely by Lata Mangeshkar, it features actress Sadhana portraying a heartbroken damsel onscreen.
While the music is credited to the legendary duo Shankar–Jaikishan, it is widely known in Bollywood circles that Jaikishan composed this song alone.
Out of the entire hit soundtrack of Arzoo, only the song "Jab Ishq Kahin Ho Jata Hai" was a joint or Shankar-led effort.
Music experts often call this song a "duet" between Lata Mangeshkar and a saxophone.
The soulful saxophone pieces interspersed between the verses echo the exact weeping pathos of the lyrics, lifting the emotional weight of the song significantly.
The song was beautifully filmed amidst the stunning ravines and lake vistas of Kashmir, which provided a stark, beautiful contrast to Sadhana's lonely and melancholic performance.
The lyrics by Hasrat Jaipuri are highly celebrated. He famously uses nature to reflect heartbreak—using lines like "Fiza ke bhes mein girte hain ab patte chanaro se" to mirror the crumbling world of the protagonist.
He was flown to Srinagar to visit the filming locations for inspiration.
Saath Saath (1982)
A beautiful ghazal that captures the pain of love, distance and the strange ironies of life.
Singers: Chitra Singh
Lyricist: Javed Akhtar
Music director: Kuldeep Singh
Lead actors: Farooq Shaikh and Deepti Naval.
The film Saath Saath, directed by Raman Kumar, became memorable for its realistic portrayal of relationships and middle-class aspirations.
Its music, composed by Kuldeep Singh, gave Hindi cinema some wonderfully understated ghazals, including “Tumko Dekha To Yeh Khayal Aaya” and “Yun Zindagi Ki Raah Mein Majboor Ho Gaye.”
Film: Saath Saath
Singers: Chitra Singh
Lyricist: Javed Akhtar
Music director: Kuldeep Singh
Lead actors: Farooq Shaikh and Deepti Naval.
The song explores the paradox of two people who grow so close that they somehow end up feeling distant. Javed Akhtar's words express how love can bring happiness and yet leave us questioning life's unexpected decisions. Chitra Singh's gentle, restrained singing lends the ghazal an intimate sadness, allowing the emotions to speak without unnecessary ornamentation.
It is a song that reminds us that sometimes, the deepest distances are not between two people, but between their expectations and reality.

Kishore Kumar’s singing in “Tum Kitni Khoobsurat Ho” is a beautiful example of his ability to blend romance with effortless charm. ❤️
His voice flows with a lovely softness, carrying a sense of wonder and heartfelt admiration for the beloved. There is no unnecessary dramatics, no vocal excess—just Kishore Da’s natural warmth, playful tenderness and that unmistakable romantic magic. He makes every line sound spontaneous, as though a lover is expressing his feelings straight from the heart.
The beauty of Kishore Kumar lies in making a love song sound less like a performance and more like a personal confession. His voice doesn't merely describe beauty; it makes you feel the emotion behind it. 🎶
Music Shankar Jaikishan.
Jungle Mein Mangal is notable for featuring a rare collaboration where two prominent lyricists (Hasrat Jaipuri and Neeraj) officially teamed up as a writing duo for the film's soundtrack.
Song picturised on Kiran Kumar and Reena Roy.
