Thanks @stevens1lab for the encouragement to post! Click below to learn more about the advocacy logo we made in fall 2019, why we made it, why, now more than ever, we proudly display it and why we hope you display it too! ๐๐
Special thanks to @FChrisBennett and @nachoriko for the wonderfully written primer on our new microglia cannibalism publication. Itโs so amazing when such exceptional scientists write about our work!
Microglia can selectively clear neurons, but what else do they eat? @FChrisBennett & @nachoriko explore a #PLOSBiology study showing that #microglia also cannibalize other microglia, followed by microglial necroptosis Primer: https://t.co/HPmowIQUDh Paper: https://t.co/KS2feqiTTy
We are excited that our work describing microglia cannibalism is now officially in press! https://t.co/9mrfB0gC2Z
Stay tuned because we are on to the genetic mechanisms! ๐
Really excited about our new preprint from the lab about microglia lifespan and cannibalism. Congrats to Hannah Gordon for her hard work! Read more below about the story ๐๐งต๐ @ZTSlab

Microglia are considered long lived, but @cssmity &co show that individual embryonic #microglia die within 3 days after clearing neural debris and are cannibalized by existing microglia, paradoxically leading to additional microglial death #PLOSBiology https://t.co/KS2feqiTTy

We are seeking researchers who investigate the development, regeneration, and function of the nervous system, as well as the molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying health and disease, detection, and treatment.
I am excited to get this project moving with @stevens1lab to find new microglia modifiers. I am also excited to be part of the larger group of collaborative people that are in the @ChanZuckerberg network!

I am excited for our most recent publication led by Jake Brandt (now postdoc with @SD_Ackerman). Jake's work reveals spontaneous activity in DRG glia in the early phases of its assembly. Interestingly to us, a part of the activity was dependent on mechanical channels. ๐งต๐
Jake's contribution to the lab was so important for our future work! In particular, he introduced calcium imaging to the lab, which opens up our ability to do circuit analysis (coming soon!)!
