Beginning Saturday September 6/25, #SouthPorcOPP#OPPAuxiliary will be going to businesses and residences in #IroquoisFalls to promote the CAMSafe Program. CAMSafe is a program aimed at creating a database of residential and commercial security cameras within a community that may act as a resource for police when investigating offences/crime.
When police use the CAMSafe database they will see a map of the local area. Officers can click on the registered addresses to view further details, such as property owner contact information. They cannot access your security cameras or cloud-based accounts. If police would like to examine camera footage, they can make a request to the property owner.
Interested community members are only required to provide basic contact information and camera location but, can include more details if desired, such as direction the camera faces, footage retention details or screenshots of the camera view. Registrants can only view their own information and can delete their account or change their information at any time.

We will always respect the opinions of our public, and welcome their thoughts on policing and public safety. However, sometimes a few facts go missing and misperceptions tend to linger.
The image below, taken from recent SPS social media comments, encapsulates a few of these myths that might benefit from some factual information.
1. Recognizances of Bail do NOT contain a standard “keep the peace” condition (but probation orders do). At a bail hearing, the decisions to release and/or impose conditions are determined by the Judge or Justice of the Peace (not the police).
2. The new MCU is a City (not police) vehicle. It was built by the City as a shared asset, and is operated and maintained by @SarniaFire. It was not part of the police budget and is not ticklish.
3. The horse was a fun April Fool’s Day post. We do not have any horses or stables here @SarniaPolice.
4. The police facility project has been underway for a long time. We have been very transparent on this with many public discussions, released engineering reports, building tours, and deliberations by our Board.
5. Many police vehicles operate 24/7 and need to be replaced every 3-4 years. Trucks were less costly than Explorers and the consistent body style allows us to save by reusing equipment when the vehicle is replaced.
6. The entire response to Monday’s incident, along with the full investigation, was done by the SPS. OPP ERT and TRU provided the (much appreciated) tactical component for a couple of hours.
Our SPS ERT team has already been deployed 37 times in 2025. This was the first time in a very long time that they were not available and we had to use a backup.
7. The police are often and perhaps unfortunately the visible “agency of last resort” when (less visible) social systems fail. Police are often blamed for things we do not control.
8. The Sarnia Police most certainly show up. So far in 2025: Average of 105 events/day, with 25% being “priority 1” emergencies. Over 2000 criminal and drug charges laid, over 1200 arrests.
The SPS team does an exceptional job, in our busy city, to tirelessly address the many issues and demands we face. We do it as effectively and efficiently as we can, within the many constraints of law and available resources.

We are saddened to share that longtime Maple Leafs PA Announcer Paul Morris has passed away at 86.
The voice of Maple Leaf Gardens for decades, Paul never missed a game from 1961 to 1999. He called the final game at the Gardens and was the first voice at Scotiabank Arena. More than an announcer, Paul was part of Leafs history. His voice and legacy will forever echo in Leafs Nation.
The 🏈🏈 teams are slightly different from 2024, but the message is still the same.
Do not drive impaired.
Plan ahead for a ride a home.
