I shipped v2 of The Farmland Atlas! This is a big one, built almost entirely from your feedback 🌍
I rebuilt the land, climate, water, and soil scoring formulas from scratch, so what you see now is a lot more trustworthy than v1.
A few things you can now do:
📅 See current data, not just projections
Added a 2026 option to the time selector alongside 2050 / 2070 / 2100. So you can check where a patch of land stands right now.
🌾 Score only real farmland
Land data now masks out cities, built-up areas, and bare ground like rock and ice. So a score reflects land you could actually farm, and not a highway or a glacier.
💧 Factor in water access
Added two new datasets: irrigation availability and rainfall reliability. Useful for telling apart two places with similar soil but very different odds of actually getting water.
🔍 Find a place fast
New search bar! drop in coordinates or a place name instead of panning around the map.
🎛️ Filter every layer
Custom filters now work on the land and institutions layers too, not just the combined "everything" layer.
✨ Plus a cleaner interface overall:
+ new frosted-glass look,
+ clearer legends (much better on mobile),
+ auto metric/imperial and map centering,
+ and higher-fidelity tilesets for exiting data.

Everyone's posting about their Midea PortaSplit. I bought mine last year (a small flex) and here's the one thing almost everyone skips:
Proper installation. It's a 3-4°C difference vs. just winging it.
Most people leave the window cracked open and run the hose through the gap. But that's leaking hot air back in the whole time.
What I did instead last year: I took the glass panel out of the balcony door and replaced it with a painted sheet of plywood. Then I ran the hose through it and insulated around it. (I swapped the glass back in the fall)
Result: we dropped our living room from 28-30°C to 19-20°C.
Worth the extra setup.
