Στο πλαίσιο του Cybertech Global Tel Aviv 2026 πραγματοποιήθηκε και η τελευταία συμμετοχή του Επιτρόπου Επικοινωνιών κ. @MichaelidesGe , στο invitation-only roundtable “Maritime Cybersecurity Innovation – International Best Practices”.

Κατά τη συζήτηση, παρουσιάστηκαν διεθνείς βέλτιστες πρακτικές για την ενίσχυση της κυβερνοανθεκτικότητας στη ναυτιλία, καθώς και ευκαιρίες διασυνοριακής συνεργασίας και κοινών καινοτόμων έργων, με στόχο την ανταλλαγή πληροφοριών μεταξύ δημόσιου, ιδιωτικού και ακαδημαϊκού τομέα, την ενίσχυση της συνεργασίας δημόσιου και ιδιωτικού τομέα και την ανάπτυξη ικανοτήτων στον ναυτιλιακό κυβερνοχώρο.

Ο Επίτροπος Επικοινωνιών παρουσίασε το όραμα του Γραφείου του Επιτρόπου Επικοινωνιών για τη δημιουργία του MCEE, όπως αυτό ανακοινώθηκε από τον Πρόεδρο της Δημοκρατίας κ. @Christodulides κατά την τριμερή συνάντηση τον Δεκέμβριο

Επιπρόσθετα ο Επίτροπος ανέλυσε τους τέσσερις βασικούς πυλώνες του Maritime Cybersecurity Center of Excellence (MCEE): Threat Intelligence & Maritime Regional Security Operations Center, Training Center & Capacity Building, Guidance, Policies & Regulatory Framework και Innovation & Research.

As part of Cybertech Global Tel Aviv 2026, Commissioner of Communications Mr George Michaelides concluded his participation with the invitation-only roundtable “Maritime Cybersecurity Innovation – International Best Practices”.

The discussion focused on international best practices for strengthening maritime cyber resilience, as well as opportunities for cross-border cooperation and joint innovation initiatives, aiming to enable information sharing between the public, private and academic sectors, strengthen public–private cooperation, and build capacity across the maritime cyber ecosystem.

During his presentation the Commissioner of Communications presented the vision of the Office of the Commissioner of Communications for the establishment of the MCEE, as announced by President Nikos Christodoulides during the trilateral meeting in December.

In addition he outlined the four core pillars of the Maritime Cybersecurity Center of Excellence (MCEE): Threat Intelligence & Maritime Regional Security Operations Center, Training Center & Capacity Building, Guidance, Policies & Regulatory Framework, and Innovation & Research.

Στο πλαίσιο του Cybertech Global Tel Aviv 2026, ο Επίτροπος Επικοινωνιών κ. @MichaelidesGe συνεχίζει τις συμμετοχές του, με το χθεσινό panel “Emerging Trends in Maritime Cybersecurity”.

Κατά τη χθεσινή του συμμετοχή, υπογράμμισε ότι η κυβερνοασφάλεια στη ναυτιλία πρέπει να ενσωματωθεί πλήρως στο πλαίσιο προστασίας κρίσιμων υποδομών και στη ναυτιλιακή ασφάλεια και όχι να αντιμετωπίζεται ως καθαρά θέμα IT. Τόνισε τη σημασία σαφούς διακυβέρνησης και κατανομής ευθυνών μεταξύ κράτους σημαίας, λιμενικών αρχών και φορέων εκμετάλλευσης, καθώς και την ανάγκη υποχρεωτικών risk assessments για IT/OT συστήματα και στενής συνεργασίας με τα εθνικά CSIRTs.

Παράλληλα, ανέδειξε την αξία εναρμονισμένων διεθνών προτύπων, της διασυνοριακής ανταλλαγής πληροφοριών και των κοινών ασκήσεων ετοιμότητας. Υποστήριξε τη μετάβαση από «box-ticking» συμμόρφωση σε outcome-based και risk-based εποπτεία, με έμφαση στην επιχειρησιακή ανθεκτικότητα, τη λογοδοσία σε επίπεδο διοίκησης και τη δημιουργία αξιόπιστων μηχανισμών αναφοράς περιστατικών. Τέλος, αναφέρθηκε στην ανάγκη ισχυρότερων μοντέλων δημόσιου-ιδιωτικού συντονισμού, με εθνικούς κόμβους ναυτιλιακής κυβερνοασφάλειας για ανταλλαγή πληροφοριών, εκπαίδευση, κανονιστικό συντονισμό και καινοτομία.

As part of Cybertech Global Tel Aviv 2026, the Commissioner of Communications Mr George Michaelides continues his participation, including yesterday’s panel “Emerging Trends in Maritime Cybersecurity”.

During the session, he stressed that maritime cybersecurity must be fully embedded into critical infrastructure protection and maritime safety frameworks and not treated as a standalone IT issue. He highlighted the importance of clear governance and accountability across flag states, port authorities and operators, mandatory IT/OT risk assessments, and close cooperation with national CSIRTs.

He also emphasized harmonised international standards, cross-border information sharing, and joint preparedness exercises. Moving beyond “box-ticking” compliance, he advocated outcome-based and risk-based supervision, focusing on operational resilience, board-level accountability, and trusted incident reporting mechanisms. Finally, he underlined the need for stronger public-private cooperation models, including national maritime cyber hubs to support information sharing, capacity building, regulatory coordination, and innovation.

The Commissioner of Communications Mr George Michaelides is taking part in Cybertech Global Tel Aviv 2026, one of the world’s leading events on cybersecurity and emerging technologies.

During the conference, he will serve as a speaker and panelist in a series of discussions, the first of which took place yesterday, with further sessions scheduled over the coming days, contributing to global dialogue on the challenges of the digital era, with a focus on network security in the IoT and 5G landscape, the role of regulators in safeguarding critical digital infrastructure, and the need for risk-based regulation. He also addressed the implementation of NIS2 and the Cyber Resilience Act, the importance of digital trust, supply-chain risks, and the growing need for international cooperation and close coordination with national CSIRTs in an increasingly interconnected environment.

Τόνισε τη σημασία της θεσμικής συνεργασίας Κύπρου–Ισραήλ ως πρότυπο αποτελεσματικής περιφερειακής σύμπραξης, υπογραμμίζοντας την ανάγκη ευθυγράμμισης στρατηγικών και κανονιστικών προσεγγίσεων, ιδιαίτερα στους τομείς της ναυτιλίας, της ενέργειας και των ψηφιακών δικτύων.

Ιδιαίτερη αναφορά έγινε στις ευκαιρίες που δημιουργούνται για τον ιδιωτικό τομέα μέσα από συμπράξεις δημόσιου και ιδιωτικού χαρακτήρα, καθώς και στον ρόλο της καινοτομίας στην αντιμετώπιση των αυξανόμενων κυβερνοαπειλών. Στο πλαίσιο αυτό, ο κ. Μιχαηλίδης ανέδειξε τη σημασία της περιφερειακής και διεθνούς συνεργασίας για τη δημιουργία ανθεκτικών, διαλειτουργικών και μελλοντικά προσανατολισμένων ψηφιακών υποδομών.

Το φόρουμ ανέδειξε επίσης τη δυναμική που δημιουργείται από την επίσημη ευθυγράμμιση της ενεργειακής συνεργασίας στην Ανατολική Μεσόγειο, όπως αυτή αποτυπώνεται στην Κοινή Δήλωση του σχήματος 3+1 (Κυπριακή Δημοκρατία, Ελλάδα, Ισραήλ και Ηνωμένες Πολιτείες). Μέσα από τέτοιες πρωτοβουλίες, η πολιτική μετατρέπεται σε απτά έργα, επιταχύνοντας την ανάπτυξη ανθεκτικών ενεργειακών τεχνολογιών, τον εκσυγχρονισμό των δικτύων και την κυβερνοθωράκιση κρίσιμων υποδομών, ενώ παράλληλα ανοίγονται νέες προοπτικές για επενδύσεις και καινοτομία στην ευρύτερη περιοχή.

The Commissioner of Communications, Mr George Michaelides, participated in the high-level forum “Tech Horizons of the Mediterranean”, held in Tel Aviv and co-organised by the Embassy of the Republic of Cyprus in Israel, the Cyprus Trade Center, and Startup Nation Central. The forum focused on shaping the currents of cyber, maritime, and energy innovation, highlighting the strategic importance of cross-border cooperation in the Eastern Mediterranean.

As a panellist, Mr Michaelides outlined the mandate and priorities of the Office of the Commissioner of Communications in strengthening cybersecurity and safeguarding critical infrastructure. He emphasised the value of Cyprus–Israel institutional cooperation as a model for effective regional collaboration, underlining the need for strategic and regulatory alignment, particularly across the maritime, energy, and digital sectors.

Mr Michaelides also addressed the growing role of the private sector, stressing that meaningful cyber resilience requires close public–private cooperation, innovation, and shared responsibility. He highlighted how regional and international partnerships are essential to building resilient, interoperable, and future-ready digital infrastructure capable of responding to evolving cyber threats.

The forum further underscored the opportunities created by the official alignment of Eastern Mediterranean energy cooperation, as reflected in the Joint Statement of the 3+1 framework (Republic of Cyprus, Greece, Israel, and the United States). By bringing together policymakers, regulators, and industry leaders, the event demonstrated how policy can be translated into concrete projects—driving resilient energy technologies, grid modernisation, and the cyber-hardening of critical infrastructure, while opening new market pathways for innovation and investment across the region.

Last night’s Tech Horizons of the Mediterranean event brought together leaders from Israel and Cyprus for a focused discussion on the growing collaboration between our ecosystems.

The conversations centered on cyber, maritime, and energy innovation and the shared need for resilient digital infrastructure, rising cybersecurity readiness across companies and governments, and cross-disciplinary cooperation to drive innovation at scale.

We were honored to host H.E. Kornelios S. Korneliou, Ambassador of Cyprus to Israel, whose participation underscored the commitment both countries share in advancing technological partnerships. 

Two panels highlighted how public and private sectors are shaping the region’s next phase of tech collaboration.

The first panel examined how governments can enable multilateral cyber collaboration. Moderated by Sofronis Papageorgiou, it brought together George Michaelides and Gadi Benmoshe for a focused look at shared challenges, rising threats, and the need for aligned regulatory approaches that strengthen regional preparedness. 

The private sector panel, moderated by Aviva Steinberger, focused on how industry is investing in the infrastructure that will secure our future. Despina Panayiotou Theodosiou and Tomas Beerthuis explored how emerging technologies, from AI-enabled decision support to multi-network satellite connectivity, are reshaping global industries and increasing cybersecurity demands.

Grateful to join this dialogue and to contribute to cross-border cooperation that delivers real impact for our region. Two small countries, when working together, create a meaningful force for innovation.

נפגשתי היום עם חברי שר האנרגיה הקפריסאי ג׳ורג׳ פאפאנסטסיו. אנחנו ממשיכים לקדם את פרויקט הכבל החשמלי התת ימי שיחבר את ישראל לאירופה דרך קפריסין ויוון, ובנוסף דנו בהסכם לפיתוח מאגר הגז הטבעי אפרודיטה – ישי.

הפרויקטים האלו מחזקים את מעמדנו כמעצמת אנרגיה אזורית, והופכים את ישראל לגשר אנרגטי ממזרח למערב, כחלק מהחזון ליצירת מסדרון תשתיות שיעבור דרך מדינות המפרץ וישראל.

נמשיך לחזק את שיתופי הפעולה בין ישראל לקפריסין 🇮🇱🇨🇾
