What's the cost of a typical cleaning in NYC? Being very conservative, $100?
You're telling me that a single instance of apartment cleaning recording data is worth more than $100 to AI training companies?
There's no way the economics on this thing work.
Sign me up though.
Today, we're launching shift. We're starting by cleaning your apartment in New York City, for free.
Here's how it works. Book a shift cleaning. A vetted shift operator comes to your home wearing one of our devices. They clean. They leave. You pay nothing.
In exchange, we record the cleaning. Robotics is being built on data about how people do daily tasks, and the value of that recording is what funds the service. Anything personal in it is anonymized before the recording is processed.
By now, you have heard about the shift to AI more times than you can count. About the shift toward you, the part where you actually feel it, you have heard almost nothing. Shift is what starts to make it concrete, in specific cities, with specific services.
Today, cleaning in New York. Soon, handymen, repairs, and errands across the globe. And this is just one side of shift, with more on the way.
Comment “shift” and we’ll send you an early access link.
Silicon Valley's obsessed with "the permanent underclass" - a fear that AI will render everyone without massive personal financial capital irrelevant.
I think the phrase says less about the future of AI than about the terror and the psyche of the people building it.
Somehow waymo has better availability and prices than uber. Cool.
But the way waymos pickup from the Midway in SF makes absolutely no sense.
Feels like they’re trying to solve a genuine pickup problem in a difficult situation but they do it by having a line of machines doing a loop and a dance down an alley through a parking lot and back again, meanwhile humans are perplexedly peering for their own car.
Its like some cyberpunk android mating ritual but humans and cars keep each other starting and stopping and hesitating down this alley in a game of will he or won’t he and plugged up in a queue and it’s all nonsense.
There is a better way.

Sometimes when something seems hokey, silly, and overdone but it seems that everyone is raving about it, that's not because you're better than that thing. It might actually be really great.
My therapist told me:
People's negative traits are usually the opposite of their love languages.
Not asking for help.....Acts of Service
Isolating…..Quality Time
Avoidance……..Physical Touch
Impulsive Shopping......Gift Giving
Shutting down .….Words of Affirmation
