Protecting children with real-time advocacy. Every child deserves a safe and loving home. Pro bono help for abused kids. Borlaug Humanitarian Award recipient.
On this episode of the Amazing Arizonans Podcast, Darcy Olsen sits down with Mike Broomhead to share how opening her home to abused and neglected children opened her eyes to a broken system — inspiring her to found the Center for the Rights of Abused Children and rewrite the rules for how America protects its children.

Darcy went into orientation ready to change a life, but she didn’t realize how much her own life was about to brighten. 🌟 While the world talks about the crisis, Darcy decided to talk about the solution: a crib, a soft blanket, and a promise. That "Red Exit Sign" isn't the end of the story—it’s the beginning of a journey toward a home filled with laughter and safety. Darcy chose to be the light at the end of the tunnel, and today, that crib represents the brightest hope.

A Happy Home Means... "The Saturday Morning Nothing." 🥞☕
We’ve celebrated the pizza nights and the bedtime stories, but there is a specific kind of brilliance in a Saturday morning where there’s nowhere to be. It’s the sound of cartoons in the background, the smell of pancakes, and the sight of a child finally feeling safe enough to just relax. In a world that felt chaotic for so long, "doing nothing" is actually doing everything. It’s the ultimate sign of stability: when a child stops looking over their shoulder and starts just being a kid.

They aren’t “runaways.” They are missing children.
Did you know that every day in America, 50 children go missing from foster care. Many are later found in trafficking situations, or worse.
At the Center for the Rights of Abused Children, we refuse to accept that.
In Missouri, we helped pass a landmark reform that changes how the state responds when a child disappears:
• Missing children now must be reported within 2 hours
• Searches cannot stop until a child is found
• Current photos are required so law enforcement can act immediately
Children in foster care are not disposable. They are not statistics. And they are never “just runaways.”

To the architects of happy endings—today is for you. 🕊️
Today we honor the bridge-builders: the social workers, NICU nurses, and pediatricians who nurse tiny warriors back to health and hold their hands until they reach safety. You aren't just doing a job; you are creating the foundation for a lifetime of happiness. Thank you for being the brilliant light that leads children home!

The data is clear: when abused children have attorneys by their side, they exit the system 3.5 times faster. That is nearly two years of childhood reclaimed! Two more years of bike rides, family dinners, and knowing exactly where you belong. Every day spent in limbo is a day too long. Let’s keep moving toward the light—faster.

"No child is unadoptable." ✨
From one scared foster mom and a tiny baby in the NICU, a spark was lit. That spark
became the Center—and today, hundreds of thousands of children are finding safe
homes and loving families, just like Ophelia.

The 15k number is an undercount… let’s make the main headline: Protecting teens from homelessness.
Every year, thousands of abused and neglected teens age out of foster care without a family. Without a home, these teens face immediate homelessness and worse.
We are happy to share that $30 million in federal funding has been approved to provide a vital safety net for these children. This funding includes:
✅ On-demand housing vouchers to prevent homelessness the day a teen leaves care. ✅ Early planning requirements, giving agencies 180 days to secure a housing plan.
“When teens leave care without a family, housing is the essential foundation for everything else—education, employment, and safety,” says our Founder & CEO, Darcy Olsen.
We are committed to ensuring no child reaches adulthood without a safe place to call home.

This isn’t just policy. It’s personal. ❤️
When Ophelia came home, the goal was never just a place to stay—it was a family.
I came prepared to love her until her family could be found. When none could, love stayed.
Every child deserves to be chosen, cherished, and called “daughter” or “son.”
We advocate in courtrooms across America so stories like Ophelia’s aren’t rare—they’re the norm.
