@prairiecentrist@howardanglin@BenWoodfinden There were positive (albeit modest) measures in the budget but it remains that little of the ‘diversification is imperative’ discussion inside or outside of parliament has focused on the substantive regulatory, tax and trade infrastructure improvements that will move the dial
@howardanglin@BenWoodfinden I remain amazed at how little of our diversification policy debates focus on the thing that would make the biggest difference - making Canada a lower cost and more productive jurisdiction to produce things
@JJ_McCullough There aren’t a lot of truly contradictory regs - it’s mostly variations on trying to achieve similar outcomes. But there can an be limited exemptions if needed (ie BC/AB maintaining higher standards for trucks going through the mountains, QC on language stuff etc)
@JJ_McCullough Provs can (and should) agree to recognize each others rules/regs - i.e if a commercial activity is legal in one it can be automatically deemed legal in the other. That has no federal decree and is not a transfer of any power to Ottawa
@RobMoore_CPC Thanks Rob, @cme_mec members appreciated you taking the time to sit down and dig into the challenges and some of the solutions facing Canada’s industrial economy.
@tylermeredith@erinotoole I like to imagine a best of both worlds where participation rates of 55+ are up even further (still needed) and cost containment was even greater (still needed) while enhancing benefits - it was an option for Trudeau.
@tylermeredith@erinotoole It was both, Harper and other govt folks said a number of times in the context of the change that a shrinking labour force as a result of an aging population was a key consideration
@tylermeredith@erinotoole the study acknowledges it’s findings don’t account for employment and personal savings impacts. And it was about more than just federal expenditures - incentivizing longer labour force attachment has been a key goal of the many other countries that have done or are doing this
Was pleased to speak with @GowlingJordan at the @financialpost about manufacturing trade diversification in the face of U.S tariffs ⬇️
