Thank you maama for repeating this over and over, these words stick to me forever, & everytime I need your advice or to talk to you, I will remember this like now.
We have passed "aamu undhagulaa behey gavaaidhu" one that has not existed so far in malé city council
Waiting for it to be published in the gazette after LGA approval.
It includes all the issues we discussed and solutions to it legally as well. Hopefully they will not stop it. But that is wishful thinking.
Even yesterday I was attending similar issue on fiyaathoshi magu, and we are facing difficulties without a legal gavaaidhu in place to take actions.
Though with establishment of GMTMO theres a lot of jurisdiction issues now and unsure of what is to come next as of yet.
Talk about royally missing the point. Or should I say
Ras-missing-the-point
You are implying that the intervention under that government was rushed but yours is “justified” because the “previous guys also did it, and they did it first”
Incompetence is incompetence. This bill had legally unnecessary elements and its timing is politically tone deaf to Maldivians sensibilities
You messed up! Stop chasing your tail! My guy, please get your fries in the bag!!! 💀💀
The Maldives intervened in The Gambia v. Myanmar on 10 November 2023, under the previous Government. It is in that very declaration, Maldives expressly argued that Article V of the Genocide Convention obliges States to enact domestic legislation criminalising genocide. Yet, the Maldives had not done so.
It was not this Government that “jumped into proceedings” making that very argument without first addressing our own laws.
On 1 October 2024, this Government intervened in South Africa v. Israel, advancing arguments on States’ obligations to prevent and punish genocide, including direct and public incitement.
Both interventions were legally justified. Neither required prior domestic criminalisation.
This Government is correcting a legislative failure that has persisted for over four decades. That is not headline-chasing. That is doing our job.
The facts are clear. Your understanding of them, evidently, is not.
Let's not talk about ours...
Not that a cabinet full of PhDs helped though..
We do have a president with one.. meh
But yes what the Serbian students managed to accomplish was amazing!
I guess that's what happens when real PhD's are there.
@sikandhari@a_usham Should've done so before jumping into the case no? I mean, I think it's called due diligence.
But nope, the "public support" you claim is what they wanted then, so they didn't bother.
MDP needs to rectify a lot yes, I agree.
@a_usham couldn't even put the fries in the bag. 💀💀
42 years later, we're only now introducing genocide as a specific crime in our penal code. this gov jumped to join proceedings against Israel at the ICJ without first getting our own laws in order
That's this government's approach to everything. Jump in for the headlines, figure out the what, why and how later. The sad and sorry state of our Attorney General's Office right now.
Look at this chart. The monthly raise alone for the Majlis Speaker is higher than the entire monthly salary of a full-time island school teacher or a public sector nurse. Plus, a minister's +17,000 MVR car allowance bump is nearly 2.5x the civil service average salary. Read more: https://t.co/JFjzGOp07H
You know the hasbara is getting desperate when rumaalu2 has to make a comeback.
sad part is they really thought changing the username would work,
But surprise surprise @Midhuamsaud had receipts.
🇷🇸 After nearly 2 years of almost daily peaceful protests across Serbia, students have won the elections, defeating the country’s autocrat Vucic.
