First time funding from @PattyMurray will establish a new youth homelessness prevention effort at the federal level. This will reduce homelessness across populations and lead to many more young people living in stable housing and never knowing what homelessness is like.
We've got to do more to address youth homelessness, and new support I secured in the gov't funding bill—based on my legislation—will provide grants to state, local, and Tribal governments and local organizations to help prevent youth homelessness. I'll keep fighting to do more.

Actually preventing young people from experiencing homelessness is often possible but rarely a major piece of our homelessness strategies. @PattyMurray is working on legislation that will go a long ways towards fixing this & making sure few young people ever sleep on the streets.
Today I visited ROOTS Young Adult Shelter in Seattle to see the work they're doing to support young adults experiencing homelessness—& to announce new legislation I’m working on to help prevent young people from becoming homeless in the first place.
4.2 million young people experience homelessness in the U.S. I applaud @PSYyouth for working to make a difference, and Washington state for leading the way. Find out more about their new initiative to prevent youth homelessness in 5 communities: https://t.co/LAzys32AqZ
The stories in @Ms_SamShapiro's latest for @NYTmag are the heart wrenching reason behind much of our work. For more about the early signs of youth #homelessness in rural America and how it becomes a barrier to education: https://t.co/vNlCExJJ51
Washington state is making progress on prevention of youth homelessness, but it will take a lot of effort in the years to come. Read/listen to WA wants to secure housing for youth exiting state care | Crosscut https://t.co/Gjo3qFfodP @Crosscut@YouthToday@Chapin_Hall
“This year, Walla Walla County became just the fourth community in the U.S., and second in Washington, to achieve a measurable reduction in youth and young adult homelessness.”

Not sure what that closed caption is all about, but I'm going to spend the rest of the day trying to decipher its meaning. "Last night Stacy smile"? @funderstogether@awayhomeamerica @KimberlyAWaller

#NewOpportunities is a bold effort to prevent, not just mitigate, youth homelessness. Our nation will soon have a prevention plan, guided by those closest to the issue and based on research. It's what young ppl & families have been asking for for decades. https://t.co/ASK8p5ZfDQ

The huge number of young people who receive inpatient or residential behavioral health treatment and then experience homelessness is stunning. Excited that @ManattHealth is highlighting strategies that can disrupt this troubling pathway into youth homelessness. @RaikesFdn
We developed a report for the @RaikesFdn that presents strategies for states and other stakeholders to use #Medicaid to address youth and young adult #homelessness following an institutional or residential stay for psychiatric and/or substance use care. https://t.co/IbeDpFkNuC

@DrAliceCo Would love to hear more & I know Mass has long been working on intersectional issues and prevention on youth homelessness. It didn't show up in the story but I was largely referring to the WA's $24m investment this year in prevention alone, alongside 3 targeted prevention plans.
Lots of us "excited to see the influx of funding geared toward reducing the pipeline of young people who exit public care systems like foster care or hospitals and wind up homeless"! Thx to young ppl, advocates, electeds & agency folks making this happen. https://t.co/VmSuuMdaui
It was an incredible honor to be Art Longworth's atty. Art taught me so much about how systems wrong ppl. But more importantly, he & this case reinforced how right it is to give a second chance to people who never got a first chance. https://t.co/Eh3vTVaYmy @Crosscut@RoweReport
