Much needed initiative from @labstamil:
'CultureCheck is not a boycott list. It is an evidence-based evaluation of the subtle and brazen agendas baked into the films you are already watching. Think of it as the nutrition label of Indian cinema: the site spells out the ingredients. You decide what you consume.' All the best!
TLDR: https://t.co/siGp1GGZwt is a site to see if Indian films - Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam have leftist propaganda. It is the nutrition label for cinema that you can check before consuming. Site still in nascent stages. Feedback welcome. Pls spread the word 🙏
It’s a lazy Friday evening. You scroll Twitter or IMDB for a movie recommendation, find something well-rated, and hit play on an OTT.
30 minutes in, the film mocks your Dharma, slanders your family values, Marxist vi0lence is subtly justified and psycho villain chants Sanskrit shlokas before keeling innocents. You did NOT sign up for this. You just wanted to see a film, but got a leftist lecture instead.
Anbe Sivam is a genuinely great emotional film, but will you catch what your young child’s communist takeaway is going to be?
You and your family will watch Soorarai Pottru and come back thinking Air Deccan was started by a EVR-ist socialist named Nedumaaran, not Gopinath.
You cried your heart out for Chakk De India's Kabir Khan, when in reality, its based on Mir Ranjan Negi. You watch entire period films on Nangeli believing her to be a historic figure, when in reality, she is a fictional character. You watch a friendly feminizt film about a girl chasing her dreams to be a chef - and voila, the Iyengar girl suddenly changes into a burkha to offer Dua before cooking Biryani for it to come out tasting well.
You did not sign up for any of this. But you had no way to know it beforehand because no mainstream reviewer will tell you these things. You have been pressing play without knowing what you are walking into. You also have no place to look up neutral films which don't have any agenda.
Enter CultureCheck(dot)in - A Bharatiya lens on Indian cinema. This is the Dharmic Movie Database you've been missing.
CultureCheck is not a boycott list. It is an evidence-based evaluation of the subtle and brazen agendas baked into the films you are already watching. Think of it as the nutrition label of Indian cinema: the site spells out the ingredients. You decide what you consume.
You are free to watch anything. CultureCheck simply gives you the right to know what’s in it before you do. OfC the site has its preferred list of ingredients, so the verdict is based on Bharatiya cultural lens. And if you disagree with a verdict on the site, your POV is welcome, if it has merit, the reviews will be updated to reflect it.
PS: Site is still in nascent stages, any and all feedback is welcome. Contributors who can write reviews/decode films/ share recommendations are welcome too.
PPS: Please, please spread the word. We have been complaining about propaganda in cinema for decades, this is an initiative to stop complaining and do something about it. Please repost and share it with your friends and family.
