What we are seeing is IBM post binary combinatorial encoding of "Happy National AI Day."
Over 2,300 years ago, in his work Chandashastra, the Indian scholar Acharya Pingala developed a systematic binary method to classify and enumerate Sanskrit poetic meters. He divided syllables into two categories:
Laghu (light) - mapped to 0
Guru (heavy) - mapped to 1
And it represents the earliest known explicit use of binary combinatorial encoding. 2000+ years later, Boole, after whom 'Boolean logic' is named, created a similar system and logic using 1 and 0.
Interesting to note that his wife, Mary Everest Boole, explicitly claimed that he and Charles Babbage got their ideas from Indian logic in her work "Indian thought and western science in nineteenth century."
But his possible knowledge of Indian works on logic and linguistics is denied now completely as "only his wife claimed, we don't have any evidence he read Indian works."
Anyway, what you see here and what is being used now as the Binary system and encoding (running much of computing) was already in use 2300 years ago in India.
Btw, Mary Everest Boole is niece of George Everest, the guy after whom Sagarmatha is named by westerners as their own discovery - like Victoria Falls and the Americas were said to be 'discovered' 10s of thousands of years after Africans and Native Americans :)
I taught JEE physics for years. That paper breaks strong kids in three hours.
This exam is five hours of theory and five hours of lab work, and these five did close to perfect scores on it.
Let me tell you what actually happened.
The International Physics Olympiad is the world championship of school physics. It was the 56th edition. Held in Bucaramanga, Colombia, from July 5 to 12.
381 students. More than 85 countries. Every one of them the best physics student their country could find.
India sent five kids.
All five came back with gold.
Their names are Kanishk Jain from Pune. Riddhesh Anant Bendale from Indore. Rishit Garg from Dwarka in Delhi. Shresth Suraiya from Mumbai. Svarit Joshi from Ahmedabad.
We know a hundred cricketers by their nickname and not one of these boys. :)
That clean sweep put India at joint World Number One. Tied with China, Russia, Kazakhstan, South Korea and Taiwan.
Those are countries that pour serious money and national pride into science education. We are standing level with them.
Now here is what the exam actually was.
Two papers. Each five hours long.
The theory paper had three problems. One on the thermodynamics of paramagnetic cooling. One on the photoionisation of ozone. One on the dynamics of electron positron pairs.
The experimental paper was another five hours in a lab, working through heat transfer and thermodynamic processes in fluids.
That means you get given equipment you have never seen, and you have to design your own experiment, take your own readings, handle the errors, and reach a real answer.
Not multiple choice. No shortcuts. No pattern recognition. You either understand physics or you sit there for five hours.
HBCSE says the Indian students were near perfect on theory and excellent on the practical too.
Now, this was India's 27th appearance at the IPhO.
Across all those years, about 44 percent of Indian students have won gold, 41 percent silver, 10 percent bronze.
In the last ten years, every single Indian student has come home with a medal. 62 percent gold, 38 percent silver.
Not one kid has gone and come back empty handed in a decade.
Five golds in one year has happened only twice. This year, and in 2018.
So who built this.
The programme is run by HBCSE, the Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education. It sits under TIFR, which sits under the Department of Atomic Energy.
They run the whole funnel. A national exam, then a national olympiad, then a brutal selection and training camp, and out of everyone in the country, five kids get on a plane.
The team was led by Professor Anwesh Mazumdar of HBCSE-TIFR and Dr Leena Joshi from St Xavier's College, Mumbai.
The scientific observers were Professor Ananda Dasgupta from IISER Kolkata and Nisha Kelkar from Gogate-Joglekar College in Ratnagiri.
Yes. Ratnagiri. A college in a small coastal town in Maharashtra.
This is public education doing something the private coaching industry could never do on its own.
The coaching industry is very good at one thing. Teaching you to solve a known problem fast.
That is what JEE and NEET reward, and I say that with love because I was part of that world.
But an olympiad paper does not have a known type. There is no shortcut chapter. There is no formula sheet that saves you. You have to sit with a problem you have never seen and think.
That is a completely different muscle. And a government funded centre has been quietly building it in Indian teenagers for 27 years.
So yes, be proud. Loudly.
HBCSE also shared that around 64 percent of India's olympiad medallists go on to do a PhD.
But only about 32 percent of medallists end up settling in India.
I do not say that to spoil the moment. These kids owe the country nothing. They earned every option they have.
But it should tell us something. We are excellent at finding this talent. We are excellent at training it. We are still not great at giving it somewhere worth staying.
Congratulations Kanishk, Riddhesh, Rishit, Shresth and Svarit. This is one of the best things an Indian did this year and most of the country will never hear about it.
So many women on a daily basis go through the humiliation of delivering in a medical college setup because they cannot afford a private nursing home.
I do not know how common this experience is, but I have heard these few statements by Obstetric trainees towards women undergoing labour pain almost on an hourly basis in the labour room-
“Chillana band kar. Taange kholte time to nahi chillayi thi” “Zor laga. Tera hi baccha hai” “Panty utaar. Ab kyu sharam aa rahi hai. Tab (during sex) to nahi aayi thi”
These women do not have the privilege of posting on social media or creating a ruckus on news channels. Oftentimes, the ObsGyn trainees are fellow WOMEN🙏
@AstroSharmistha@rvaidya2000 While reclaiming lost lands is great in theory what abt the people in it & most importantly the demographic truths of those lands? A cntry that's already suffering the cost of an incomplete partition, how will it manage the influx of bad faith actors?
“I beg to introduce myself ”the introduction letter Ramanujan wrote to great mathematician G.H. Hardy is nothing sort of Thug life. Pure bliss.
Ramanujan’s 1913 letter to Srinivasa Ramanujan begins with that almost humble Victorian phrase:
“I beg to introduce myself to you…”
And then, within a few pages, he casually drops pages of identities and theorems that would stun G. H. Hardy.
That contrast is what makes it unforgettable: the politeness of a clerk from Madras paired with mathematical results so advanced that Hardy reportedly said the formulas “must be true, because if they were not true, no one would have the imagination to invent them.”
The wild part is the social context:
Ramanujan was largely self-taught.
He had no formal elite mathematical training. He was working as a low-paid clerk at the Madras Port Trust.
Yet he wrote directly to one of the world’s leading mathematicians not asking for praise, but presenting results.
That letter is almost cinematic:
“Hello sir, I am unknown. Here are several theorems that will alter number theory.”
Hardy later ranked discovering Ramanujan as the most important event of his life. He even rated his own achievements and gave himself 25, but gave Ramanujan 100.
It’s one of history’s greatest cold emails except it was on paper, and it changed mathematics forever.

No where in the world, with a per capita of $3000 and per sq km population density of 500 humans, can you see herds of large wild and dangerous beasts roaming about freely and growing in numbers.
It can happen only in India.
Do not let those who massacred their wild animals to live freely, and cull their dangerous beasts if they increase in numbers or attack humans, preach us and program you against the nation when there's some human animal conflict in India.
Or tell us about human rights.
Kudos to Assam for doing so much in conservation of nature and increase in numbers of India's big beasts like Elephants, Tigers, and Rhinos.
The word Hundi comes from the Sanskrit huṇḍikā (हुण्डिका), derived from the root huṇḍ (हुण्ड्) meaning to collect/to gather. In medieval India & dating back even earlier among merchant guilds, a Hundi was essentially a Bill of Exchange/a promissory note/a credit draft.
If a merchant in Banaras wanted to send money to a trader in Dwarka, carrying physical gold/coins across forests was dangerous due to dacoits. Instead, he would deposit cash with a local banker (Shroff/Mahajan) in Banaras, who would issue a written Hundi. The merchant would carry this slip of paper to Dwarka, present it to an associated banker there & cash it out. It was an indigenous, trust-based encrypted banking network.
Now, to understand how a financial draft became a temple collection box, we have to look at the economic structure of ancient India. Hindu temples were not just places of silent prayer; they were the largest socio-economic institutions of the state.
They held massive tracts of land, funded irrigation projects, acted as grain banks during famines & crucially, acted as the ultimate safe-haven lenders. Merchant guilds, kings & travelers heavily interacted with temples for credit & capital. The temple was the safest physical structure in any kingdom to store wealth.
According to the Ashta Dasa Puranas, Lord Venkateswara wanted to marry Goddess Padmavati. To fund the unprecedentedly grand celestial wedding, He took a massive loan from Kubera (the treasurer of the cosmos).
The contract dictated that the Lord would remain on earth at Tirumala & pay back the principal & interest to Kubera until the end of Kali Yuga. Devotees do not drop money into the Tirupati Hundi as a random charity/bribe to God. They drop wealth into the Hundi to help the Lord repay His debt. By contributing to the repayment of the cosmic loan, the devotee accumulates immense Punya (spiritual merit) & fulfills their own Karma.
When people look at a temple Hundi today, they just see a donation box. But historically & logically, It is a remnant of an ancient, highly sophisticated indigenous banking & credit system that functioned flawlessly on absolute trust w/o a centralized govt bank.
It represents the ultimate manifestation of Artha subservient to Dharma, where wealth is collected not for personal hoarding, but to keep the cosmic balance & the socio-economic engine of the community running.
A 15-year-old dream has come true today. I started a PhD with the dream of creating a system that chants any Sanskrit shloka perfectly.

"I grew up in a Hindu household that was a very stable household. I have not felt the same need to seek something different that he (JD Vance) has," says US Second Lady Usha Vance on her religion and her husband's conversion to Catholicism
1/ Russia has spent four centuries erasing the native faiths on its borders. It razed the sacred groves of pagan peoples, hunted their priests, and deported whole nations. The starkest case is one almost no one has heard of: the near total destruction of the Circassians and their ancient religion. Thread 🧵
