I created @curlewsounds because I wanted to contribute to wider efforts to stop the magical sound of the curlew from disappearing from the UK.
I’m so pleased that one of the soundscapes has been nominated for the 2022 @sound_awards in the ‘Disappearing Sounds’ category.
Today is #WorldCurlewDay, so I thought I’d rattle out a little rendition of ‘Simmerdim’, the song that sparked my curlew album project, which has raised more than £10K for curlew conservation since last year.
Today’s the perfect day to buy a copy! https://t.co/iTCo7cOnpq
Happy #WorldCurlewDay to friends and colleagues who are care deeply about the survival of this bird. I don’t have snazzy pictures but I will go and bathe in their calls on a hill, on my own and drink in their awesomeness. @CurlewAction@CurlewLIFE@curlewsounds@CurlewCountry
The sound of curlews captures wildness, but in British and Irish folklore, it’s also long been seen as a bad omen. Check out the subtle but powerful way in which these two segments of award-winning TV use curlew sound to evoke wildness (and freedom), but also danger #curlews
This wonderful programme on the curlew’s place in Irish folklore was broadcast last night and uses music and soundscapes from Simmerdim @curlewsounds as a backdrop. Thanks to @lennyantonelli 🙏

As a thank you to everyone who’s supported the release of Simmerdim this year, here’s a new film combining one of my @curlewsounds recordings from Geltsdale, Cumbria, with RSPB curlew video footage from the same location by @NicholasRodd!

If you haven't heard "Simmerdim: @curlewsounds" yet, we heartily recommend giving it a listen. And better yet, all proceeds go to curlew conservation (it would make a great Christmas present for the bird-lover in your life). Congratulations @merlyndriver
So far you’ve helped Simmerdim raise several thousand for curlews (£6000 already with the RSPB’s Curlew Recovery Programme, with more coming), and it’s been streamed half a million times on spotify alone 🙏 Please keep supporting! It’s a great xmas gift…
