#TechForGood 🌍 Discover the cutting-edge new #technology - attached to #drones - that will help us survey and monitor hard-to-reach environments, supporting environmental research for the good of our planet... and all with a low carbon footprint: 🔗https://t.co/ecundkTAlp
Hi! I just had a spotlight on me in our PML page. It was rather nice to put the nearly 10 years I spent at PML in perspective. If you are curious, have a look. I am sorry but there would be lots of photos of me 😃
Meet Aser Mata, an #EarthObservation scientist at the forefront of advancing PML’s use of #drones – taking our #EnvironmentalResearch to new heights. Aser tells us more about his research from the skies to work towards a better and more sustainable world: https://t.co/nSFpjWVwfo
I am thrilled to see this report finally published. It’s been a privilege to contribute alongside such dedicated scientists across NERC in setting UAS goals for the coming years. I am proud to be part of this thriving community.
To support our goal of achieving Net Zero by 2040, we have commissioned the UK’s environmental science centres to review the Uncrewed Aerial Systems (UAS) landscape.

Check out what we've been working on with the UK Centre for Ecology & Hydrology @UK_CEH to help improve water quality monitoring of rivers and lakes. Read more at: https://t.co/aPRqSfxyF3 #Windermere#drones
A new study led by PML scientists has, for the first time, explored the use of #drones and #DeepLearning to detect, count and map #PacificOysters - an #InvasiveSpecies with a potent harmful impact: https://t.co/wVk3rPIvSb
The #Vis4Sea project is using sensors on drone footage of the Plym River at Mount Batten to measure #WaterQuality. Thanks to our scientists / 'drone crew' Aser Mata (@cursedquark) and William Jay (@_willjay) for flying the drone, and to Misael for access to the Corinthian area!
Our Director of Science Prof Steve Widdicombe (@steve_swi) went out on the Quest yesterday to support the drone filming of #OceanAcidification sampling, as part of the sustained observations at the Western Channel Observatory (WCO). Discover the WCO here: https://t.co/s4ydtr4V3d
Fieldwork never truly ends! Managed to get out last week and bag some more intertidal #seagrass drone surveys. 🌱
Never get tired of seeing these amazing and intricate systems from above.
Last week we were up in #Orkney mapping #kelp with our drone.
The landscape there is simply amazing! This is a feasibility study between @HeriotWattUni, @PlymouthMarine and @Bluemarinef. Special thanks to @DrAnaQueiros for taking us there. Looking forward to seeing the data!
As we draw to a close this year, we've updated some of our promotional materials, including a new poster that is currently placed outside our office at the University of Edinburgh. It highlights some of the fantastic global projects we've helped to support over the last two years
Yesterday, we were contributing to create more @DamesOfDrones flying solo as part of @portwims summer school here @PlymouthMarine. Cointidetially with the #WomeninDronesWednesday.
It was great fun and I am looking forward to seeing more of her work.
It is a pity I could not make it to #LPS2022 but my friends at PML got my back and made sure my poster is there. @VMartinezPML and a few others will be somewhere around if you want to chat about HyperDrone or our research on the remote sensing of marine plastic debris.
Last two weeks were very busy but lots of fun! We took a lot of drone data over intertidal areas near Plymouth that will contribute to the @portwims summer school resources taking place in July at @PlymouthMarine.
