The Duke of Wellington is located on a quiet residential street just off Kingsland Road in Haggerston, East London. The nearest station is Haggerston.

The pub’s original address was 1 Wellington Terrace, Stonebridge Common. An old street sign for Stonebridge Common remains fixed to the exterior of the pub today.

The pub was built in 1845 and, for much of its history, was owned by Courage Brewery. The Welly, as it is affectionately known, is named after the Duke of Wellington, Arthur Wellesley, the 1st Duke of Wellington, who also became Prime Minister in 1828.

This is a traditionally decorated, one-bar pub that has a proper old-school London pub feel to it. The servery is centrally located, with the bar area forming a horseshoe shape around it. At the front of the pub are a few benches for the warmer months.

The decor consists of red and white papered and panelled walls, traditional furniture with banquettes beneath the windows, historical framed portraits and prints, shelves displaying an assortment of trophies and awards, and a well-worn, proper pub carpet.
