@FischerKing64 I genuinely love it when students correct my errors. Happens a decent amount in multivariable calculus, where there is a ton of room to make minor algebra mistakes.
@jameszimmermann I love that he is renewing the monuments and am generally positive toward Trump, but the KC thing has been a disaster. It needs to be renovated, but the renaming is classless behavior. The NSO also had no idea he planned to shut it and still hasn't released next season.
@EWErickson Tbh I can respect that take. At least it is honest. It is sort of how I feel about Paxton. Though I don't live in Texas or Maine, so ultimately it makes no difference what I think.
@1714tak Turangalila is a fun piece. Yes it’s ridiculous, but that’s part of the fun. Are you familiar with his “Et Exspecto Resurrectionem Mortuorum”? It’s for wind ensemble and metal percussion. That’s my favorite Messiaen. Very powerful music.
@martinmrmar Check out Richard Strauss's symphonic depiction of the story if you don't already know it. Very entertaining music.

@RyanGirdusky@rkylesmith I'd put money on Collins if I had to bet, but it concerns me that the electorate is different since this is a midterm and not a presidential election like 2020 was.
@FischerKing64 This and the 7th are tied for my favorite LvB symphony. The B-theme of the finale, as introduced by the lower strings, is among my favorite LvB moments.
Interesting to compare this pastoral with Ralph Vaughan-Williams's pastoral (3rd). Very very different moods.
@DStrungk@HeywoodFloyd10 I think Platner gets replaced somehow. It isn't like they are shy about doing that. New York Times broke some of the news about him, and to quote @JohnAshbrook "The only time the media goes after a Democrat is when it will help another Democrat"
@sir_squatchalot Ives is a very uneven composer, but he has some absolute gems and this is one of them. When he is good, he is legendary. The Putnam’s Camp movement you posted always makes me think of the Gadsden flag for some reason. I love his description of each mvt in my copy of the score.
I’ve considered having my AP physics students use LaTeX for typesetting some lab reports for extra credit. But I also teach AP Comp Sci A and the last thing I need is another class where I end up looking for missing curly braces in documents 😂
@eigenuser1 Try asking for a lab report in word with a nontrivial element, like an equation, or an outline of the procedures. You’ll see bugs under the log.
@DStrungk Terrible tweet and I think the Dem party is awful (and I sort of like Miller), but Miller did start it. I just sort of expect this kind of stuff by now.
@sir_squatchalot@BlueBoxDave Extremely based.
FWIW I prefer Paxton, even if he is probably not a great guy. No reason to have anyone but a hardcore Republican in representing TX.
@pgeerkens The first time I told them to use Excel several years ago, I watched in horror as the majority of them type a few numbers into a box, take out a calculator, type stuff into that, and then carefully type the results into more boxes. I realized something had to be done 😂
Fair point about Word and PowerPoint, but using Excel meaningfully is a skill. My primary goal when doing AP Physics labs is to make sure my students can use Excel for computations and graphs. Even if they never want to see physics again, the skill carries over to many fields.
