There is going to be a growing divide this year in tech. I see three groups.

1. Skilled employees using AI to accelerate their work.
2. Unskilled employees using AI to create a lot of slop.
3. Employees unwilling or unable to use AI.

I think each group will be roughly the same size. But only one has a viable future in tech. It’s going to be a rough year.

We have used story points with a great deal of discipline and consistency for a long time. The measurable productivity difference between the first group and the others is massive.

Group 2 ended up being a net negative because of “AI slop” that gets into products that then has to be fixed (as early adopters we didn’t have good guard rails u til later).

Group 3 often tried AI too early and formed a strong opinion that is difficult to overcome.
